Egyptian Protesters Storm US Embassy

Hopefully this is as close to a terrorist attack as we'll come today.

Protesters stormed the U.S. Embassy pulled down the American flag and replaced it with one of their own. Supposedly they're upset over some movie, but no one is sure which movie.

That Arab Spring is really working out great for us, isn't it?

It doesn't matter, Mr. Deez, this was a historic movement that would not be denied,

It's laughable to speak of the Arab Spring as anything other than an undeniable historical force that will eventually triumph everywhere there with maybe a few small exceptions like the UAE, so saying something like "those who favored/did not favor" the Arab spring as if our policy would have had any impact on the final outcome is ridiculous.

Assad is learning this now. Ultimately, he will not win. He may win today, tomorrow, next month, but ultimately he's a goner, and whether any of us favor that or don't favor it that is a historical reality that will come to fruition. The best policy is to try to get in good with whichever factions seize control afterward. Of course, that could be folly, too.

Bevo, therein lies all of our problems in the Middle East, and assuming the US had no foreknowledge of 911, which Im skeptical that we didnt, we will continue to face terrorism and hatred for the next 100 years because of what you just said:

Btw, I thought there are marines guarding the consulates? Any forcible action on our consulate should be treated as an act of war. Shoot the animals.

And the first thing our state department condemns is the movie. Sweet. We are attacked and the administration starts another apology tour.

You know I read about angry, crazy Muslims all the time. But I've never met one. The physician who diagnosed and finally gave me relief from Lyme Disease seemed like a helluva nice guy, reasonable, personable and generous in the community. Likewise fellow students, coworkers etc. who were Muslim seemed to be kind and easy to get along with. Maybe the problem is with ignorant people making poorly informed generalizations in the Arab world and here as well.

As far as the Arab Spring being good for us. Not if we want those countries to do our bidding. Dictators are greedy, but you can buy them off cheaply compared to the costs of placating an entire populance. That said, I think the dictators were working against the best interests of their people and if the people manage to get in place a government with their interests at heart, the rank and file will be much better off. Compare the people of Turkey, who are very prosperous by standards of the Muslim world and enjoy much more freedom to the plight of people in Iran, a country with much more oil wealth, but where people are comparatively poor and oppressed.

The movie should be condemned. It is self-serving, hate-filled propaganda created and financed by Israelis and Israeli-Americans. They knew very well the response that it would generate in poor, uneducated masses in North Africa.

The Link

If a bunch of Christians, Muslims or Hindus got together to make a film like this on Judaism or say just one focusing on widespread child abuse in orthodox Jewish communities in New York, the ENTIRE Jewish community would scream Anti-Semitism.

You can hardly say anything negative about Israel or Judaism without risking the Anti-Semtic label but these jackasses can go around saying whatever they like about Christianity, Islam and other religions and it is just free speech.

Finally, the creator if the film (now in hiding) admits that he made it (with the help of 100 jewish donors) to help Israel.

I don't hate Muslims. That doesn't mean I hate myself or America. I do favor a clear-eyed examination of our policy and our motives.

Reason is not good, Crockett. You are supposed to hate Muslims. Because, you see, our brand of fiction (Christianity) is so much better than their brand of fiction (Islam).

Yes, we must all be bigoted morons who blindly vote GOP, support Israel, claim to be Christians without giving any real thought to what Jesus actually taught and have a simple view of the world where we are better than everyone else.

Wash..Great thing about America is you have the RIGHT of freedom of expression. No matter how bigoted or self-serving, the producers have the right to make that movie. My guess is you aren't nearly as upset at the crucifix in the jar of urine or the play on Broadway about Mormons.

JY -- If Christian mobs had rioted and killed people, the crucifix in the jar of urine would have been a lot more upsetting to me. Instead I thougth it offensive, stupid and something to not worthy of much further thought.
