at home. ANOTHER diappointment.

Can't say I am disappointed with the loss as I predicted an Aztec victory.

Texas has once again stepped backwards from being an elite team.

More later...

It is hard for seniors to step up when they are stuck sitting on the bench...both Erika AND Earnie spent FAR too many minutes on the bench. ANd for as few minutes as Kristen got, one has to wonder whether she is reconsidering the decision to return...

It is infinitely more difficult to win games when the basketball IQ is NOT on the floor...

Coach G - OFFENSE, OFFENSE, OFFENSE!! Master offense. You have coached defense - we get it! Now let's coach offense.

Sidebar: I also think this is why Geno is a great coaches. He teaches OFFENSE! IMHO his offense is light years ahead of everyone else. I always wonder if he had our players what kind of team would they be?

I'd rather have seniors on the floor that have some basketball IQ but that might also miss some shots than I would the lack of chemistry and lack of displayed BB IQ that exists when said seniors are on the bench...

Too many times there was no effort being made to pass to certain people. Too many times people tried to force the lane in the HOPE of drawing a foul since there was no chance in hell of the shot going in...

In short, last night was a microcosm of the season, and to a lesser extent the past three years. Poor play on the court compounded by questionable strategies.

A few more wins in conference simply is NOT progress that should be viewed as reason to celebrate, especially when it culminates in another one and done in the NCAA's. This is Texas and middle of the pack in conference JUST DOES NOT CUT IT!

Sadly, last night did little more than reaffirm my conviction that we were over-rated at a six seed...absent SIGNIFICANT change, I don't see things getting better anytime soon.

I think people need to give Coach G a couple more years. She's still dealing with Jody's recruits and I think she should have the chance to get players in that suit her system. She has at least gotten Texas to the NCAA tourney the three years she has been here. Some of you seem ready to give up on Coach G and start all over which would again take a new coach 4-5 years to get players to fit their system.

Not good enough for Texas

All the basketball IQ in the world doesn't help if you can't but the ball through the hoop. You gotta score to win.

Gayle is a great defender but there is no way that she should be starting in favor of Reed, who is the only post player we have that is an offensive threat.

Brit couldn't make a layup and Erika had several shots that didn't even draw iron. Earnie was 2-8...the seniors were a combined 5 of 22. They had their opportunities...for four years.

I agree that Coach G needs to have a team full of her own recruits before she is judged.

Didn't help that Kat Nash missed like 4 wide open 3s, very much an oddity considering she's hitting almost 50% for the season and that includes a lot of shots with defenders nearer-by than during the shots she was getting last night.

Coach G sat the seniors because she was afraid they would sabatoge the team because they are "Jody's recruits."
Kidding, but I am tired of hearing about how she can't win because she has Jody's recruits. It's not like Jody recruited from the garbage heap. The 2005 class was tops in the country. Raven was a McDonald's All-American. Kat Nash has been a very good player from Texas.
Coach G on the other hand has only had one legit recruit and that is Cokie. Fontenette and Flores were not highly ranked by ANY recruiting services.

Now I see we are talking again about Coach G please watch sum of the NCAA Womens Games. And it easy to see why we struggled. You have to have pieces in place in order to be ELITE. You got to have a GO TO Player that is clutch. Thats why she is the Go To Player. Point Guard - will always set your offense up in the half court game. Make good decisions with ball. We did not have this and no go to player either. Bottom line we did not have a team full of players that were really ready to committee to her system or give the effort thats she use to seeing. I luv San Diego St. guards. That got after it! And from the beginning of the game. Now I like what C.Reed gave us And when you are a Senior to me, you are suppose to lead in the games when you get to the NCAA Tourn. not be a follower. And they were put on the bench, because they were not producing. Which shocked me.Be just be patient, will are going to be good. But 3 years want get it. She just did not really inherit a good team, with a good basketball IQ AND OUR PLAYERS THAT WERE RANKED COMING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL WERE OVERRATED. Lets be honest. Did any of those players make a All- American Team in their 4 years. Do they look like they were a different players as the years went by. No Did any of them show up last nite. No there you have it. You got have players. The game for womens basketball is at a all time high rate of very good teams with good guard play. No guards, No team
I luv Coach G and once again I will say. I am glad she is at Texas She can only teach, she cant go out there and play for them. You have to build energy and confidents from within as a player. And you must have good chemistry! I wonder about that part I just said. Lets getem next year. Look forward to 2011 Coach G

Last night was a bad loss, and while I am a big supporter of Coach G. I think she could have done a few things differently last night. First off a time out needed to be called before SDSU leapt out to a 33-14 lead. TX came out flat. SDSU was shooting lights out. The moment it was clear that Morris was eating Brittany and Ashleigh alive, Yvonne who is the best guard defender on the team should have been face guarding Morris. Sticking with the zone killed us when they were shooting 80% from beyond the arc. I would still agree that the game was lost through very poor shooting. I have never seen Brittany miss so many uncontested lay-ups and going 1 for 13 from 3 did not help. Nerves, over-excitement, I dunno. I hope for a true point guard and a natural leader from next year's freshmen. Another threat from 3 will also open up Kat, who was blanketted last night so she never found shooting rhythm. A.G. needs to find her game of offense. She also tends to miss chippies. Cokie needs to continue to commit to her conditioning so she can be out there longer, and I cannot wait for Fontennette to slide into her natural position of shooting guard as opposed to having to run the point. We have a strong core of players returning, and I feel confident that next year will tell whether we are turning the corner or whether we are in for another 20 years of mediocrity!

It was Jody's fault and now it is Coach G's fault? Two extremely accomplished and respected coaches couldn't get these incredible top ranked players to perform...hmmm??? Jody's coaching style is vastly different than Gail's coaching style and neither seemed to work... hmmm?

Baylor had a better recruitng class than A&M but we swept Baylor and A&M swept us. Hmmm?

It might interest many of you to know that we averaged 71 points per Big 12 game. Offense wasn't our problem. Defense wasn't our problem. Consistency, intensity, chemistry were the problem.

How about we wait and see what Coach G does over the next couple of year's with a different crop of players.

Best of luck to our seniors. We know you did your best.

Best of luck to Coach G. We know your best is still to come!

I was at the game and the Drum was way empty. To make matters worse, a large portion of the crowd were from Lamar University waiting for their game.

Sorry to say it, but GG is hard to relate to. She does not come across as warm and welcoming, but that is just my impression of her. I am not sure that she is very endearing to the UT fans.

I do think they were tight. Missing layups (and about half the team missed them-not just Brit and Earnie) along with SDSU making those 8-10 3s the first half didn’t help.

I do wish Kristen had played more but that’s cuz she’s one of my favorite players. She certainly did well when in there.

The biggest thing that stood out was 1-13 from BTA. From this team? When they shoot over 37% from BTA? When they set a team record for 3s in a season? When Kat came in hitting 48%? And others were around 35-40%? Really a big surprise there.

The effort was there. Can’t force 21 TOs and get 12 steals without effort. But too many times it was off by a smidgen, causing the effort to go unrewarded.

I consider it to have been a good season with improvement in the way the team played. Still too many peaks and valleys when they played with a lack of consistency. And certainly, I consider the season to have ended at least one game too soon. But disappointed in the players? No way. Disappointed for them? Yes. For three seniors, this was their last game. One that they will not have a change to change. For fans, next season will be a time to hope anew and to complain when things are not as we expect them to be, whether or not those expectations are based on reality or fantasy.
