Educational shows from Elem. School

Ok, I went to school at Heights Elem. in Richardson in the late 70's and early 80's. I got to thinking about some of the shows that we watched IN school. I can only think of 4 but I know there were many more.

Clyde Frog
Voyage of the MiMi
Vegetable Soup
Mulligan Stew

There was another show about some kids that were stranded on an island. I recall an episode in which they figured out how to get water using evaporation and a tarp.

There was also one in which some kids went back in time.

Anybody think of any more?

p.s. I did find the intro to the 3 I listed on YouTube.

Shows in school?? Nope, not in my day. Well, we did occasionally have senorita Barrera.
1 little 2 little 3 little indians.

I guess we had the occasional b&w films of negroes in their Native AFrica, all primitive and ****, teaching us about the pygmies and the Watusi. That was probably my perception of Africa for about ten years.

I remember 2:

1) Square One
2) 3.2.1. Contact

Knoxville, I was a kid in Richardson in the mid-80s and remember many of those same shows. Add to that list "Read All About It" and you've got a veritable treasure trove of kids' shows that were better than average.

I live only a few blocks from Heights now. I don't think they use the TVs now like they did back then.

My Elementary school didn't have a TV. The only reason I knew the Challenger blew up is because I was in the principals office. We just had a bunch of filmstrips. Only ones I remember was Green Eggs and Ham, and one about bears that our teacher let us watch in reverse. We got to see a bear un-eat a fish.

If I recall, it seems as if every year, we watched some sort of year-long, children's educational soap opera. Most of the shows would last exactly one year. I'm pretty sure we watched them at least once a week -- kind of like Lost.

Maybe they weren't educational as much as a pretext to constant television watching as adults. So, kind of an education on consumption.

We liked 'em. I wish I could remember some of the other shows -- specifically the one's that I mentioned above.

Econ and Me. A show in 4th grade about economics (very, very, basic concepts). The guy, Econ, hangs out with some kids. They all have fun learning about the economy.

We'd also watch Ghostwriter every week.

Villa Alegre...
The Link

Hey does anyone remember this film?
I probably saw in in about 1980.
It was about smoking pot. (I know there were probably tons of those). But this one kept playing Boston's "Smokin'" all through the film.
They kept showing the album cover (For their 1st album, the record label....etc...etc...

I was about 7, but knew the whole album because of my brother.

We didn't have educational tv at James B. Bonham elementary in Abilene, but we did have weekly trips to the school library to watch films abt Egyptian pyramids, the space race, dingos and laughing hyenas, Zulus in darkest Africa, Antarctica, and insect-eating plants. Great stuff, which I why some of my favorite cable channels are Nat Geo, Discovery, History, Biography.

Also saw a lot of Duck and Cover, The Red Menace, etc. since it was the Cold War era and we were abt 8 miles from Dyess AFB and its B-52s.

Occasional showings of how to be a young gentleman/young lady at home or in the school cafeteria, but we were mostly Air Force brats or oilfield trash and didn't care abt that stuff.
