After posting a few months back regarding 2-3 day trips from London many suggested Edinburgh. I'm leaving this Friday for London and taking the train a week from today to sweet Edinburgh. I'll be there for 4 days/3 nights and I can't freaking wait.

I've done my research on the sights however I wanted to get some suggestions from those that have been as well as good restaurants, pubs, etc.

Edinburgh is full of great pubs. Just walk down any street in the city center and you will find something.

If you want something a bit livelier, check out the Grassmarket area. There are about 8-10 pubs on the street, and they are always packed on the weekends.

Let us know how the trip went.
 
If you are a golfer, read Golf in the Kingdom before you go. And for the rest of you, it is a great read, even if you are not on the way to Scotland.
 
Also, don't be surprised if you can't understand a word anyone is saying. (especially working class folks) It's odd when you realize they are speaking English, but you still can't understand what they are saying.

I was in a cab and the cab driver was unintelligible. I just let him keep on talking as I knodded and said, "yeah" and "oh, really? " the whole time.

Are you staying at one of the Apex Hotels? They are 2 right in the middle of Grassmarket. I have stayed there several times, and it's usually a good deal for your money.
 
No, we tried to get one of the Apex Hotels, they had some pretty good rates. We had no idea there is going to be a marathon there when we are in town and the city filled up pretty quickly. We are staying at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre which seems to be right around the corner from the Grassmarket.

You MUST go to:

The Scotch Whiskey Heritage Center.

You will have a blast even if you are not a big drinker or know nothing about the stuff.
 
Not too late for us, we don't leave until next Friday. This was on the list, thanks for the confirmation that it is worth it.
