Echo in the Pedigree dog comercial

My wife tears up as well. The thing that they don't tell you is that the dogs that don't get adopted don't look like that dog. Anytime I've been in to adopt a dog, I've seen mostly yappy, stinky, ugly mutt-dogs that have probably been there for a while. If I saw 'echo' in the pound, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Echo should win an emmy or something. Best performance by a dog!

In searching around, I found a site that says that Pedigree reported that Echo was adopted in November from his shelter in LA and is in a good home.

Kills me that the scene plays out thousands of time a day every day and not all the dogs are as lucky.

I saw that commercial and thought to myself "I need to get a dog". But then I realized that I live in a 3rd floor apt and I work the late shift...doesn't seem really fair to leave a dog alone for that much time in a tiny apt, and with no yard.

I can vouch personally for a lot of those SPCA dogs. I volunteer there a lot and spend time training them.

To those of you with apartments but maybe a love of big dogs, GET A MASTIFF. They are a breed that excels in small quarters wth minimal exercise. You don't need a yard. They are a sensible dog for even NYC or cities like that. It is a strength of the breed but most assume that because they are large, they love to run. Wrong.

Investigate the dog if you don't believe me. They are tender, loving and sweet dogs. Tons are. Too many people get a dog for how they look or how somebodies acted that they knew. Maybe a movie even.

This site, "dog breed info" has a selector section to match you with a dog or many. The Link

There are others. Just google "the right dog" for others as well as the one above. If you are willing to walk your dog every day, which you should anyways, Mastiffs and a host of others work well. Go save a dog. Go save a dog. (get it? an echo)

Danes are also good apartment dog, in general.

Dogtime.com has a pretty comprehensive breed selector with lots of criteria.

Whick's, I need to buy some land and set up a doggy daycare and play-a-rama for people. Have cameras so people can watch their pooches at play and sleep. A big watering hole, obstacle courses, stuff like that. Play all day with dogs!

But we could have no dangerous dogs!!!

My roommate sophomore year had a mastiff. His name was ceasar and he was freakin huge. He was a great dog and did well inside the apt. only problem was that they drool a lot, and drip about a gallon of water onto the floor as they walk away after drinking from the bowl.

He would stand outside my door sometimes and wag his tail where it would hit my door. It sounded like someone banging on the door with a hammer. Also, if the tail caught you in the jewels, you were going down.

Great dog

It is a very stressful environment for dogs in those places and they feed off the energy generated by people. They go batshit when they see people. Give them some one and one and imagine them with a bath.

Well, thanks to this thread, I have an appointment in an hour to do an "introduction" between my dog Emma and Roma at the SPCA.

The Bunnymen's names are Bedbugs, Ballyhoo or by baby names, the Dancing Horses. I say bring 'em on. They have Lips Like Sugar when they are on the 7 Seas and they Never Stop...but I will now, sorry.

The intro went better then I could have hoped for. Emma can be very grumpy but she actually played with the puppy, before deciding she'd had enough and put the little one in her place.
For the time being, I've taken the hold off of Roma. I'm in an uncertain situation right now and have let my head make the decision rather then my heart. That being said, if she's still there come mid week I don't think I'll be able to resist. She really is fantastic and has every characteristic you want in a dog. Here's a link to her. If anyone is thinking of getting a dog, she's a great one.

Oh wow. What a beautiful dog! Puppy's need to be reminded of their place and often a puppy can help ungrumpy an older dog and make them more vibrant and playful...till they get tired and grumpy.

I need to hurry up and get the stuff done to my house I want to get done so I can adopt a dog. My current one would adore it. But I would have to get a swimmin' hole for 'em.

Update
My best friend came with me to the introduction to meet Roma. After I decided not to adopt her she and her boyfriend went down to get her and she was already gone. So good news is that she has a home, bad news is that it's not with my best friend.

You know, I can direct you toward several slightly older dogs who have been there many many times longer than Roma was. The puppies have it easy- everyone wants a puppy, so they usually aren't there more than a week.

I have to get away from the dog adoption option for awhile. Giving up Roma has proven to be much more heartbreaking then I expected it to be. That being said, I'm sure a second rescue dog will become a part of my house as soon as my future is a little more assured.
On a happier note, my best friends boyfriend has been pushing for getting a dog for the past year and she's been resisting because she knows that the primary responsibility will be on her. The fact that they reached an agreement today means that another dog will be adopted soon.

Even if you can't adopt (this is addressed to all not anyone on this thread in particular) contact the SPCA and find out if they are taking food donations. They can always use the food.

Very good point, Mac!

I may do this. I currently buy food for a lady who adopts dogs in her neighborhood. I buy an extra bag of food when I go to Bark n Purrrrrr and leave it in her name. I figure every little bit helps. Why not this? I wish I had the time to help like Whick's does but damnit, I would come home with dogs every time I work.

Sometimes it is difficult not to. There have been a few that I seriously considered bringing home over the years.
