Ebay: At what point should I be worried?

I bid on and won a single BCS national championship ticket on ebay on Saturday evening and made the payment via PayPal with my credit card within an hour.

Seller has a 100% positive feedback rating with a score of 33 and indicated that the ticket would be mailed US Priority mail to the winning bidder and received within 3-4 business days.

I sent a message along with my payment and have followed up with 2 emails asking if pickup in Austin was a possibility (profile indicates that is where seller is located) but still have not heard anything back. The email for the users profile is an @austin.rr.com address.

Should I be worried? If so, and I don't hear anything soon is it possible to dispute the charge with PayPal and get it reversed? This is my first time ever making a transaction on eBay so I wanted to see what other's experiences have been.

Maybe you'll hear from the seller by tonight, since alot of folks just don't login to EBAy on weekends... that's been my experience.

Since he states 3 - 4 business days for delivery (assuming he disregards your emails re: pickup - and he might. He may never login to PPal, ((I always email the parties thru PPal; is that how you followed up w/ him?)) Instead, he may well have gone only to EBay... hard to say) then I don't know how you could make a case with PPal to argue a problem until Th., at the earliest.

Give him a little more time. Alternatively, I bet you can always reverse the charges thru your CC company, and just end-around PPal... just a thought, don't know for sure. Good move by using your CC, BTW.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yeah, I figure a credit card transaction is a lot easier to reverse than cash. I might be a little paranoid, I guess I just figured the person trying to sell it would be checking their email around the time the auction ends to see how it turned out and verify payment was made etc.

I sent the first message via paypal, but since the email address was shown on my ebay receipt I sent 2 emails to the actual austin.rr.com address. I don't plan to go the dispute route for a bit longer but wanted to get some opinions from the esteemed HF community first.

Oh, one more thought.

You could get an idea of who you're dealing with by going to his EBay selling history. IIRC, that would be his 'Feedback' history (or some such). The most recent auctions will be clickable as to the items he's selling

If he's auctioning everything from thumbtacks-to-camshafts; he's probably a rather casual EBay-er. Meaning he's probably casual as to finalizing his auctions.

On the other hand, if he is selling collectables, or rather, more specialized items, that may inidicate a more business-like attitude.... but you never know.. it does get nerve racking... been there, done that.

He may not ship until funds are in his credited to his PPay Acct, pushing the delivery out even further... been there too.

But, definitely, blow of the weekend time passage & hang in there!

Since you ordered Sat pm and today Mon is the first day USPS is open you might want to wait a day or two before you start a dispute process.
Give him time to confirm payment and remove payment pending from his paypal account.
The process takes some time and is not realtime.

Yeah, give it more time, but if you don't hear from them or recieve the ticket, you can certainly file a report to Paypal. I was scammed once (item never showed), and Paypal investigated, then reimbursed the money back to my Paypal account.

If he mails them today, you should have them by Wednesday at the latest. If you don't have them by Wednesday, send an email saying if they are not here in Thursday's mail, you are going to dispute the charges since you have sent multiple messages and not heard back. Some people are anti-social even via email. Good luck.

LA;

Keep the fake tickets. Report it to Ebay as soon as you can do so. I am fairly certain that the seller has to have an ebay account as well with contact info etc. I believe ebay will credit you back your money and charge him the costs. Ebay has a Q & A service, though. I have used it. Check with them to be sure.

Still no word, however I'm hoping this is more of a case of someone that is just not good about getting back to people. I have her full name from the paypal account I paid to and it's a unique enough last name that I googled it and found a LinkedIn account in Austin so things like that make me think (and hope of course) this is all on the up and up.

I'm in Austin now but live in Dallas which is the main reason why I was trying to arrange for local pickup with her while I was here. If they aren't in the mail when I get back to Dallas on Wednesday I'll make one more attempt to contact with the explanation that I will dispute charges if I don't hear back immediately. We'll see......

Thanks for all you feedback, much appreciated.

Responsible eBay sellers confirm important transactions within a few minutes (or at least few hours) after the winning bidder pays (especially on something as expensive and time-critical a NCG ticket). They do not wait for days to do so.

I've bought lots of tickets via eBay and never been stiffed, but I have dealt with a couple of real bubble heads (both OU fans, BTW) who made life difficult.

Whatever info you have on her, go to

www.whitepages.com

(and similar sites) to see if you can get a phone number to call.

Bottom line: that she hasn't contacted you by now is pathetic.

Finally got an email early this morning that the ticket was Fedexed overnight yesterday. Had to call Fedex this morning to have em hold it until I get back to Dallas to pick it up. Apparently the seller has been in the process of moving and just wasn't checking email.

See you boys in Pasadena!
