East Austin lofts

Does anyone here live in, or know anyone who lives in, the Pedernales Lofts on east 6th? I'm curious about them, as well as the Saltillo Lofts on east 5th, which are just about to open.

Both look really cool, and the proximity to downtown and Town Lake is awesome, esp. at the price.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

I used to work at a firm at the Pedernales. They're good spaces, stained concrete floor, and you could spend as much as you wanted on upgrades to appliances, counters.

I will say when our firm first moved in there was open access to the entire property. There was a bit of property crime that occured and now the interior of the property has gated access. I never had a problem with it. I think it was more a problem for the residents who lived there and whose cars are there overnight.

Signs also appear every now and then around the property decrying the gentrification of the East Side.

The units back then started at around $180,000 if you bought before construction. It was completely sold out and I know people offered my bosses a premium for their space but they didn't sell.

It's funny, the local bar right next to the Ped had to add import beers once they started getting business from the anglo yuppies gentrifying the East Side.

I'm back downtown now but it is amazing how much construction is going on now just east of downtown.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I read about the gentrification protest signs, and the thing about the beers (funny stuff).

I can certainly understand why some longtime residents feel the way they do about development on the east side, but then again, it's inevitable. There certainly is a lot going on on that side of town.

My wife made me go to the Peacock across the street from the Pedernales. Would be a cool bar to live across the street from. There was a shadier place across the street that I might have gone in had my wife not been with me.

The Peacok is a pretty cool bar, not somewhere I would hang out every night but once or twice a month it is a nice change from the usual.
