Thou, i love the fact we fill the majority of our recruiting class early. It sure does make this time of year boring. Besides Scott and Davis not much going on with this years class till signing day. I'm happy the class we have this year, solid players but next years class can be sick!

I hope we get, lots of good recruits, for 2009. That would be, good.

It really does. Early recruiting by all the major schools has changed a lot of stuff.

I remember when the last two weeks of January was so exciting.....now most of the top players have commited and stated their intentions before Thanksgiving.

As boring as it seems to me as a Longhorn right now, I still check ESPN's recruiting center everyday and most other big time programs are still signing athletes. In the past two weeks OU and USC have marked lots of athletes and USC is even hosting several this week who have already committed to other schools.

Why isn't Texas doing this????
I know we already have a big class and some serious talent, but have the coaches just decided they are going after one last recruit (Scott) and taking a break? If monster programs like USC are still recruiting with the class they have, why aren't we?

I am not sure exactly what you mean by marking recruits. I know OU pulled in McGee, Owens, Jarboe, and Bryant. That is 4 gets in January but 4 guys they were already in on. Also got 2 lower ranked players in Sims and Baloqun but those 2 are lower ranked.

UT is going after guys right now that they haven't been in on all season. Different story. And it isn't just Scott. I believe they are also going after Rod David a 4 star DT who is soft verbal to A&M and Kapron Lewis-Moore a 4 star DE who is verballed to A&M. Also believe they were somewhat looking at Dean who is soft verballed to UCLA, though they are focusing more on Scott.

As far as class ranking...I like our class better than UCLA's, I also like our overall star ranking compared to Miami's class who is really ranked as high as it is b/c they took 26 kids. If Texas gets Scott they jump into 7th or 8th place easily and both USC and Michigan would need to finish with 3 to 4 kids to jump Texas at that point. Without Scott they will jump Texas but again I think that would only bring them down to #10 as UCLA and Miami really shouldn't be ranked ahead of UT.

I think allowing highschool seniors to enroll in the spring also pushed the commitments up. I started following recruting in 2000, and I remember getting commitments right up to the end, now we already have 9 guys on campus before signing day.

This class wasnt going to be our best class, we got some great players, solid contributors, and depth. Next year is the one Mack has probably been pointing too. A Big 12 championship would help make that class even better.

I can remember the days when you had to wait to signing day and read in the newspaper who we got!!
