DVR-r,DVR+r, DVR-RW, DVR+rw

Will someone explain the difference in these blank CD's. I have a new Sanyo DVD/VCR with DVR recording. I loaded a DVR+R blank CD in it to record a game. It would not recognize it or give me the option to initialize it.

just different formats backed by different companies, look at your Sanyo manual. It will tell you which format it writes to.

rw = rewriteable, you dont want to buy those

the reason there is + / - is bc there is no standard format for dvds ... i cant think of a player or writer i have seen that doesnt use/play both, however, certain writers will only write certain speeds to either +/-

The reason why I asked is the Sanyo would not recognize the DVD+R blank disc by verbatim. Their manual references DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. I will take them back and get the -R version and see if they will work.

For all I know right now it could be a defective machine.
