DVR output connection question

Ok Hornfans, help me out.

I currently have a DirecTV HD DVR via HDMI to an entertainment system in our living room. I also have used a DVD recorder to burn my DVR’d programs to DVD. But, because the DVD recorder only accepts S-video/composite inputs, I have to take my DVR off HDMI and run S-video to the recorder. This is a pain because I would rather not have to change up connections every time I want to burn a DVR’d program to DVD.

As many of you may know, the HD-DVR has several outputs (composite, Svideo, component, HDMI). Now, here comes my question:

How can I set up my connections so that the HD DVR receiver outputs via HDMI when I want to watch TV, and outputs via S-video when I want to burn DVR’d programs to DVD?

Does the sat receiver have a way to choose through which it outputs? Or does it do both at the same time?
Am I doing something wrong?

I hope I have explained this clearly.

Opinions?

I don't have DirecTV, but my Time Warner DVR uses all of its outputs (component, HDMI, etc.) at the same time. Unless the DTV DVR requires you to choose a single output in the menus or shuts off all analog outputs if it detects the HDMI connection, then it probably works the same way as mine.

If you use a digital output (like hdmi) then the rest of the outputs are disabled. You can probably use the component and s-video outputs at the same time.

Luke Duke,

So, if I have the DVR HDMI output to my home entertainment reciever, will the satellite reciever detect it if the stereo receiver is off (meaning no signal to the TV)?

If so, I can probably "trick" the DVR to output through Svideo by keeping my keeping my reciever off and switching the TV input to Svideo (instead of HDMI) from the DVD recorder/HD DVR.

Make sense?

Don't know the answer to your quesiton but my directv HD-DVR is hooked up using HDMI and svideo at the same time. I've got a coaxial modulator converting the s-video to coax so I can watch the tv in two rooms at the same time.
