DVD Recording?

I am considering getting a DVD Recorder to transfer shows from Tivo and archive them. Has anyone tried this? If so, what is the picture quality? How many hours of recording time will one DVD hold? Thanks in advance.

My dad has a DVD recorder that doubles as a DVR. From what I've seen, it's pretty good, but he doesn't burn many DVDs. However, if your home computer is in the same room as your entertainment system, and if you already have a DVD player, I'd suggest getting a capture card and DVD burner for your computer. That would cost you about $100 on Newegg, compared to $200 or more for a DVD recorder.

Here's a good link about DVDs:The Link

I got a Pioneer one (PIONEER DVR 810H) that is a Tivo/DVD burner and think it sucks.

The 1st Football game I tried to record off my harddrive it asked me to put in Disk 1of 5.

Check the recording settings on the Pioneer deck. You should be able to get up to 6 hours on 1 DVD in the lowest "resolution" setting which is just as good as a typical VCR tape. The higher you go in "quality" the less you can get on the DVD.

I have a DirecTV / TiVo unit and I go from there to my Panasonic DVD recorder (via S-Video cable) and copy games, movies, etc. in real nice quality. It's my understanding that there are even better DVD recorders coming out later this year that will double the quality you can record on DVD - basically being able to record two hours at the best setting, 4 at the medium and 8 at the lowest. I'll get in line to get one quickly.

My lower resolution recordings look worse than a VCR tape. Maybe mine is messed up, but it looks terrible unless you record in Extreme fine or whatever the highest resolution setting is called.
