Does anyone have one of these? I am about to buy one but I am getting conflicting reports on how long you can record on a disc....are they two sided or one sided? Everything I read says 20-60 minutes for one side but it never says you can record on both? I was looking at a Hitachi model.

just get mini dv and firewire on your mac/PC. you will save money and the quality will be better. regular dvd-rs are SO much cheaper than those cam corder ones.

I just bought a Sony mini DV (HC 30) camcorder last month. I did a shitload of research reading reviews. I was bound and determined that I wanted one of the new mine DVD units.
Most all of the reviews hated the new mini DVD quality, the editing capability (can't edit since it is permanantly recorded to the DVD), the limitations on the length of record time on 1 mini DVD as mentioned in the above post, the cost and availability of mini DVDs, the "whining" noise that you hear dearing playback from the spinning of the DVD during recording. The one up side seemed to be the obvious conveinence factor that you just point, shoot, record and pop into a DVD player.
With all that said, everything I read said that the 2 sony units and the panasonic are intorductory models into this technology. May be a little soon to jump on board just yet. And it is real simple to hook a mini DV up to your computer, edit, save, and burn to a CD or DVD.
When you decide to buy one, whatever it is, DON"T go to best buy or circuit city or whatever local chain you may frequent. I went online to one of the New York outlets and saved $150. I was leary of online purchasing of electronics, but I read the reviews from people who had used them and I saind what the hell and tried it. I was 100% satisfied. I ordered on a Monday, and got it on Tuesday without even paying overnight shipping. I did hear that there were a few bad online outlets, but "ibuydigital.com" is who i used and will use again.

Done deal. And this an awesome little car for the wife. Don't think I won't be heading to the tailgate for the North Texas game in this thing!
