DVD burners w/ harddrive

At that price, it wouldn't hurt to look for one that comes with Tivo capability. Pioneer and Toshiba both make DVD recorders that come with free Tivo Basic service (upgradeable to regular Tivo service). Plus, you get a $100 MIR with Tivo boxes purchased through the end of the month.

to my understanding the thing basically has the same capabilitites as Tivo, I looked into the ones with the Tivo name but I don't want to have to pay the $300 one time fee to upgrade it to the Full service and the free basic service isn't anything like Tivo

I got a Toshiba, and it was one of the first models to come out. I like it, but it is not very user friendly. I have heard that the Sonys are a bit easier to work. Overall it is good considering I got mine for half price because of the fact that it is the older model.

I have a Toshiba DVD Recorder. Has an 80 GB drive and I've recorded a lot of stuff onto, including old VHS tapes that I've transformed to DVD's. The ***** that I have at the moment is that I can't figure out how to make it compatible with my satellite system so that I can program to record shows on different channels. The other thing that pisses me off is that I can record shows off HBO and Starz, but I can't burn them to DVD because it recognizes the content as being copyright protected (anything you record off broadcast TV; however, you are able to burn to the DVD).
