DVD burner?

First, I know nothing about burning cd's or dvd's. What I would like to do is download songs from the internet and create my own cd's. I may also occasionally want to download pics from my digital camera to the computer to burn to a dvd. What do I need? Are there certain specs I should look for? Brands? Is itunes the best website for downloading songs?

It's hard to beat this one for an IDE drive.

It's a Sony, (rebadged LiteOn), 16X. Will also burn dual layers although the disks are still cost prohibitive, (for the time being). I would suggest Nero Ultra for your burning software. I think Fry's puts it on sale pretty regularly, (the Nero that is).

I recently installed one of these in my ex-wife's machine. Believe me, I did my research as I didn't want to hear about it later.

Good luck.

...but OU still sucks.

Even though dual-layer DVD media is still super expensive, at this price, it certainly doesn't hurt to get a dual-layer burner. I have the ND-3510 (single-layer version of this drive) and I have not produced any CD coasters. Have had a couple of problems with DVDs, but I think that's mostly due to the media I've tried to use (DVD+RW

) and the crappy DVD authoring software I have. The discs are readable, but only with my computer.

On another note, my burner cost $75 less than a year ago. How depressing.
