It's real good. Better than the original, which was pretty good too.
Obviously, the special effects are better. The acting is better too. Good casting. Baron Harkonenn is a much stronger, powerful, darker, more devious, and malevolent character than in the original movie. And Aquaman is a bada$$. The Fremen (the desert sand people) are much more, and better, developed than in the original. More intrigue and politics--sort of like Game of Thrones. Paul Atreides is more of an emo boy than I remember in the original, but the actor plays the role of a reluctant kid thrust into House leadership and terrible circumstances very well. Psychology majors would probably say something about his overbearing mother...
The guild of women psychics is portrayed as a much more sinister group than I remember from the original. In fact, I don't remember them much at all from the original movie. My wife tells me this movie follows the book better than the original movie. It's set up for a Part II and maybe Part III and beyond.
Definitely a movie to see on the big screen, for sci-fans and general movie goers. Our kids (a teen and a pre-teen) both loved it too.
