dumb to go to australia in august?

still cant figure out where the eff i wanna backpack this august. anybody been to australia in august (their winter)? thoughts??

I was on business in Melbourne from Aug to Oct and it didn't seem that bad. To me it was pretty mild and much like Dallas in the winter

I was there in September and the winter was quite mild. You might have to deal some annoying light rain, but not bad on the whole.

Just stay in Queensland and you'll be fine. When I was in Melbourne in August it rained and was cold for two weeks straight.

I went in September. It was jacket weather but nothing freezing in Melbourne. Lots of rain, though. I also went to Byron Bay and Brisbane and it was perfect there. The further north the better.
