Duke: start of annual slide?

I know they've been great this year, but losing last night to #23 on the road, sound familiar?, is this their annual slide? I think they might be a good #1 seed to go up against.

Let's say we stop our bleeding, get some chemistry with the big lineup, get an #8 seed, then there is Duke at #1. Only problem is that would be a game in North Carolina most likely.

I could actually see this happening. Not saying we would win, but looking at a competitive game.

That was a VERY tough game for Duke @ Maryland on senior night. Duke played tough and was in that game until about 1:30 left. Vasquez just refused to let Maryland lose.

Duke is set to make a run at the title. They have a very good PG, a serviceable big man, a three point specialist, and a couple descent swing men. And they have a good coach that cares about winning championships and not necessarily just seeing his guys make it in the NBA.

Uh, I would much rather have Duke's basketball tradition under Coach K, then what we have had under Barnes. I don't think there is any question about it.

You know, it is amazing how much differently Mack was looked at after he won the MNC. All was forgiven and all those 9 and 10 win years were praised because it was followed up with the big prize. Barnes has a great resume and has done a lot for this school, but he has not won the big won and with his best team ever has had a very disappointing season.

Coach K has the championships. So until Barnes approaches that, I am pretty sure he has scoreboard and the rest of the numbers don't really matter.

And I took Duke at +1500 to win the NC a month ago, so I am a big Duke fan this postseason. Just thought that was an amazing value for an under-rated team.

As an alumni of both Duke and Texas I watch both programs pretty regularly. The beef among the Duke alums is that Coach K plays to win too much during the regular season and shortens the rotation way too early in the season (so recently Duke seems to run out of gas in the NCAAs). I find the opposite criticism here on this board about Barnes (playing too many guys and not finalizing the rotation early enough).

Coach K gets as much grief on his rotation as Coach Mack gets for having Greg Davis. Do you think either of them cares? I wish they would, I ***** about both of the issues a lot.

Duke doesnt start the slide until the first weekend of the NCAA tourney.

Teams that rely so heavily on the three are susceptible when they get away from home, especially playing in all those domes.

Duke would absolutely roast us. Whether thats in North Carolina (and it probabl will be if thats how it played out) or in Austin. Sorry for being a negative nancy, but seriously...

Max Powers, that pretty much states the case. I don't see why anyone should be arguing that Krzyzewski is a genius and Barnes an idiot, when the last 8 years shows Barnes has gotten more out of less in the tournaments.

Krzyzewski last won a championship 9 years ago, with a team that had 1) a senior picked #6 that spring, 2,3) two sophmores who went 2,3 the next year, 4) another sophmore who went in the second round and had the name Carlos Boozer, 5) a fifth year senior forward who averaged 28 minutes and 12 points a game, 6.7) two back up centers 6'10" or bigger, one of whom was about 24 years old, and 8) a freshman later drafted by the NBA.

Has Texas ever had any combination of talent, experience, and size that is a fair comparison? I"d say the '06 team with Aldridge, Gibson, Tucker, and Buckman comes closest but nowhere near to matching '01 Duke in NBA talent. The '07 team had a lot of talent, but no experience and little size. Pity the 06 team didn't have a point guard. Losing that game against LSU was to me the most disappointing loss Texas has had in the tournament under Barnes. All the losses have been disappointing, of course, but I thought that was the one that Texas really should have won.
