Duct leakage

Having major work done on the casa. Passed HVAC inspection with 10% leakage. That seems like a bunch of leakage for a passing grade. What is acceptable leakage?

Don't have a direct answer, but, what was the extent of the work?

I did a duct upgrade 8 mos. ago. The HVAC guy didn't test for leakage. The testing was unknown to me at the time of the work ( but I didn't ask for it, just wanted a licensed tech. to assist and procure the 'mechanical' inspection)
- the city inspector asked whether the test had been done, I said 'no', but he passed it anyway. Perhaps the answer is: A) depends on the inspector B) Money paid for the inspection is what the inspection dept. is only interested in , then 'acceptable' is your call.

P.S. I did alot of the work myself and researched the techniques for eliminating leakage. Its not terribly difficult to do yourself, depending on the construction of your casa.
If the ducts were the only thing replaced, then chances are there are still leaks around the sysem. Again not terribly difficult or expensive to correct.

Go to Austin Energy site-there are lots of links to different programs. It is a little difficult to navigate around, but you can find a lot of information there. There are lists of contractors that do energy inspections, HVAC inspections and whole house leakage testing, for example. There is a lot under the Green Building program.
You could call the Green Building program of Austin Energy to get the answer to your question. Try this number-482-5449, Brian Bomer, should be helpful.
I just replaced the HVAC and ductwork, and have done some other improvements, but haven't had it all tested yet. Will do that within a few months. We did a whole house insulation, blown-in foam, so the entire attic is sealed. Leaking ducts are not too important, because the attic is considered part of the conditioned space. But the whole house can be tested with one of those big fans they hook up to a door opening, and that finds any leaks out the window, door or other poorly sealed areas.
