I've heard some people say this made a big difference in the air quality in their houses, and others say all it did was stir up dust and made it worse...anyone here ever get this done, if so who did it and did you like it?

If your wife says so, then do it or you won't ever hear the end of it. Otherwise, save your $$.

If your home has flexible ductwork, you're better off replacing than trying to have someone clean them. They'll end up ripping holes in the flex duct.

had mine cleaned as part of carpet cleaning once and then again when a new system was installed. save your money if you're not getting it as part of some other service. just replace'em.

We had ours cleaned when we bought our house almost 5 years ago. I believe we had The Steam Team do it. There was definitely some nasty furry stuff that came out of the ducts, but the main reason we had it done was the previous owners had so much blown insulation in the attic it had filled up the fresh air plenum in the HVAC closet (we've got a 2 story house). So they sucked that out too which was the real reason we had it done. No regrets, and I think it was under $150.
