drywall taping

I've done some drywall work lately and sometimes after my mud dries the tape pops up on the seams. It is still glued to the surface, but now the seams are noticable. What am I doing wrong?

not sure, but are you maybe starting in the middle? ALWAYS start on one end. only reason i mention that is because, same thing happened to me. if that isn't it, i am not sure.

Not being able to see it, it's hard to say, but you may have laid down a too thick layer of mud under the tape. The mud will pull away from the tape if it is too thick. It will also crack if it is laid down too thick. You can probably fix it with a good layer on top of the tape.

Actually, that should be layerS.

Thanks guys.

I usually lay mud both under and over the tape. I thought I was using a decent amount of mud, but maybe I wasn't using enough. Or, as Ghost mentioned, I might have been letting bubbles get under there by not starting on one end.

I'll keep working at it. Thanks, though.

If you're using the old paper tape, don't.

Use the plastic/fiberglass mesh tape. It's self-adhesive, you just stick it on and mud over it.
