Dry Creek Saloon

still open. still "return your empties." still "no cards, no dice, no games of vice." pickled eggs, 25 cents.

Why did I live in Austin for 26 years and never even hear about this place? I'll be there this weekend if anyone wants to join me.

I asked Billy, the owner of "Dog & Duck" and "Billy's" and he said the old lady that owns Dry Creek is in poor health. I haven't been there since my college days, 20 years ago.

My guess is that if she goes, so does that place.

Sarah is her name. And I've also heard she's been in poor health.

I've been several times over the past few years, but haven't been since last summer. Sarah was there at times, and at other times it was just her sons. Last time I was there they had t-shirts for sale with Sarah's picture on them. One of them said "Bring back your bottles!!" on the back

I should've bought one.

I think Sarah's been holding on to the place to say FU to all around and everyone who wants their hands on the land.

crap, i hate that this thread is even happening but i agree that you could not blame them a bit for sellling.

Just to be clear, I don't think anyone knows that they want to sell.

It's just speculation on our part.

I saw Sarah at Taquiria Arandas on Burnet Rd. one morning a couple of years ago with what looked like was a homeless man. Really weird to see her so out of place as I'd seen her at Dry Creek dozens of times - still boggles my head as to what she was doing there and how the hell she got there.

The Dry Creek is one of my favorite places to sit down and enjoy a couple longnecks. During college I lived off 2222 so I would visit them about once a week. Now it's a little harder for me to get over there, but I still make it 4-5 times a year. We should try to arrange a HF happy hour sometime. I'll bring the dominoes.

I too will be sad to see the place go, but we all know it's days are numbered. Haven't seen Sarah there in a couple years, it's always her sons watching baseball on the little TV.

I'm getting ready to move back....anyone have a status on whether or not Dry Creek is still open? I'd been telling my wife about it and was hoping to take her there. What memories I have of the place. Sarah brought us "air condition" once to the 2nd floor. Old box fan was what she brought us and it was ALLSOME!!! Good times!

Was there today so yeah its open. But.....

It looks like changes are comig soon, the ground floor was repainted and some old coolers removed. Upstairs had some new plywood down and a pile of insulation in the corner.

Also a new foundation is poured out back it looks like another house is going in.
