Awesome. I salute the Alamo for doing this. I wish more did but they are spineless. That they posted it is hilarious. It is about to go viral, I believe.

A million and a half hits. She's famous now. Good publicity for the Alamo Draft House, though.

I have now come to the conclusion that I will go to the Alamo Drafthouse for every movie I see in a theater. Which isn't often. But still.

Then last two times I went to a movie, someone in one of the rows in front of me was texting. The phone was on silent, but the brightness of the screen was annoying. In a darkened theater, a phone shows brightly.

I think this policy is great and I wish more theaters did it.

HOWEVER, the little princess said she was using her phone as a flashlight to find her seat (I've never been to ADH, but I guess this means assigned seating, as in sports and live theater). If the theater is SO dark that you can't find your seat, then Alamo should add some safety lighting before someone gets hurt and it gets sued.

I had not intended to go to a movie tonight but now I am just for you. In fact, I won't go elsewhere in the future to make up for the few bucks the ADH may or may not have gotten from you. Your loss, imho. Thanks for the extra seat to choose from before it gets packed, which it usually does.

I dunno, Rex. How long would it take to get up and walk out into the lobby if a couple wanted to contact their babysitter? If two hours (max anymore with most contemporary films) without any interaction is just too much to bear and you are wanting to "just check" and see if the babysitter has called/texted you, then I strongly suspect that's not the sort of parent who would be content to consult the cellphone only once. So now just how many times during a film should everybody else have to put up with the distracting illumination of a cellphone screen in a darkened theatre?

Get up and go to the lobby! Don't act like the theatre patrons are needlessly inconveniencing the doting parents rather than it being the other way around.

I'm still not convinced that we're spelling that right. She says "mah-night-ed"... I think we're giving her a lot of credit that she would know how to pronounce a word with a silent "G".

"What's a bigger loss of money - someone getting away with mugging a guy on the street, or housing that same guy in jail for 10-15 years? The latter. But we should still punish those who break laws, because then less people will be inclined to do it. And if you don't stop someone, they'll do it again.

A similar concept applies here. Why would the theater create a no-phone policy if they're not going to bother to enforce it? Then they're no better than the UN or NCAA. "

Brilliant! I love the Alamo Theatre, and hate to go anywhere else. Their announcements prior to the lights dimming are sometimes more entertaining than the movie, and now they can add this dimbulb's phone message to the list. People will be laughing at her for the next 20 years.
And yeah, miss I am the only person on the planet, please go to the other theatres which are full of rude obnoxious phone ringing, texting, yakking assclowns who ruin the evening out for everyone else. You belong together, not at the Alamo.

Not sure there is any point in responding further, but I'll give it one more try...do I text during movies? No. Do I condone the policies of ADH? Sure, though, if I owned a theater, I wouldn't be so heavy handed. Do I agree with the aftermath of kicking this girl out? No, they handled it so poorly that I'll never go.

what if there's an emergency, like a couple has young kids at home and the mother needs to keep in contact with the babysitter?

excuse yourself from the theatre i guess. if its an emergency, maybe an actual phone call is in order. god forbid the mother gets inconvenienced from her movie and doesnt want to spend the time making a call.

So last night I went to see a special LOTR extended ccut screening - actually one of the first times in a while that it was essentially a full house. There was a guy next to me and a guy about four rows down who were doing a lot of texting or surfing during the movie. It was definitely annoying - and my guess is that if those people had been asked afterward, they would have said "I wasn't bothering anyone!"
