Driving to Tulsa, OK

Hornfans,

I'm driving from Dallas to Tulsas, OK tomorrow for business. Whats the fastest route there? is it going through Oklahoma City or straight up through McAllister?

It is definitely quicker to stay east and avoid OKC. I travel from Austin to south central Missouri fairly often, and I always take 75 north from Dallas. Most of the highway is divided, if not a virtual interstate, and stops are few.

I usually bear east of Tulsa, but not if I have kids with me and need a place to stay the night.

don't go through mcalester. that takes longer. go up 75 past atoka, almost to mcalester, then take the indian nation turnpike (75) all the way into tulsa. from richardson to jenks (southern tulsa suburb) takes me 3 hours and 45 minutes.... and i do it 2 to 3 times a month.

Yes, that's how I've done it in the past. It's been a couple of years, though -- isn't part of that turnpike a toll road? If so, the original poster should make sure to have a little cash on hand.

all turnpikes are toll roads in OK. speed limit is 75, it is $1.75 for that stretch. don't speed through the small towns, but particularly:

Calera (right before Durant)
Atoka
Okmulgee
Savanah

I'm from Oklahoma, and did this drive countless times in college. Notreally gave you the correct answer.

I'll second the comment about not speeding through the small towns between Tulsa and the Texas border. It took me two expensive speeding tickets to learn the lesson.

Thanks for the replies. I found out about the turnpike on the drive up and took it into Tulsa. Its worth the $1.75 to be able to go 80mph for that stretch. Oh, the cops were out in the small towns.
