I bought a Multi port VIA PCI to USB 2.0 Host Controller Card, that did not come with drivers for Windows XP. From searching online, the drivers for PCI usb 2.0 cards are part of the service pack 1 windows update.

I have installed service pack 1 but somehow it is not seeing the drivers. Does anyone know a file location that i can specify to tell the hardware wizard where to look? thanks

have you tried restarting your computer?
-----------------------

go to device manager (cntrl panel->device manager).

loook thru the list and find your hardware and remove it.

now restart your pc.

windows might recognize it now.

Thanks first for your help. I have tried uninstalling it a few times and it still comes up with the error "the data is invalid."

I have a USB 1.0 hub that I uninstalled because I read online somewhere that it could conflict with installing my USB 2.0 card. The drivers for that link you mentioned are for Windows 2000 and Below. The drivers for Windows XP are embedded in the Service Pack 1 but for some reason, it is coming up with the data invalid error message. Any other ideas?

Alright, I got it figured out thanks to a forum I found. The Link

I followed this guys directions for going into the registry and it worked like a charm
