The fiancee and I are looking at hotel options for our wedding night. We're thinking either the Driskel or Stephen F Austin. I've never stayed at either... opinions?

We stayed at the Driskill the night of our wedding and it was top notch.

We go back all the time and have drinks there- always makes for a romantic evening.

I've never stayed at The Driskill, so take this for the partially informed opinion that it is:

Stay at The Driskill.

We stayed at the SFA on our wedding night and had to walk to the f'n hot dog stand to get some "dinner" because SFA's room service stops at 11 PM. Excuse me? I've stayed at Holiday Inns that have 24 hour room service. You'd think they could figure out a way to help out a couple starting their honeymoon. (As an aside, I hope you aren't expecting to eat at your reception, because you're going to do nothing but talk and take photos with well-wishers.)

We stayed at the Driskill on our wedding night and I wasn't impressed with the room especially for what I paid. This was in summer 2005. That was the only time I have stayed at the Driskill but have been there for weddings.

we stayed at SFA for our wedding night and really enjoyed it. Driskill suites were booked, which was our first choice. If you don't end up at Driskill you most likely will like the SFA.

That said, stay at the Driskill

The Driskill. I finally was able to surprise my wife w/ a romantic weekend there last Feb. (she was scared off by the stories of it being haunted). If you can, spend the extra money & get the nicest room you can afford. The first room they put us in was large & beautiful, but the view from the window was of the a/c compressors. I went to the lobby & asked for an upgrade. It cost another $100 but we ended up staying on the top floor in the governor's suite (I think that was what they called it). The room itself was smallish but the 20' tall entryway & private balcony overlooking 6th Street was fabulous.

And of course the Driskill bar is a wonderful place for a drink.
