Dripping Springs Vodka

very interesting. i'll have to check that out. i'm not that loyal to titos as i once was, and have read recently that there is not as much difference in vodkas as all the other liquors.

I might have to try this although I doubt it can be as good as Tito's.
As far as differences...I taste a huge difference in between Vodka's. For example, you can try Smirnoff's premium Vodka and it taste like rubbing alcohol mixed with piss. On the other had you get you some Stoli Gold and it taste very smooth and with little bite.

i have not sipped two room temp vodkas side by side, like ive done with bourbon, scotch, tequila, rum, etc. even gin has a flavor recipe - bombay sapphire has 10-20 ingredients. vodka is just grain alchohol.

what i was told, by people in the liquor distribution business, back when i was a bartender, is your wasting your money on high end vodka. i guess its like the thread on tequilas from a few weeks ago, that if youre going to mix it with a lot of crap - soda, cranberry, whatever, then it dont make a ****. if youre going to sip it, it matters more so.

I can tell a big difference in Vodkas. I keep my bottles in the freezer, then drink the Vodka straight up.

As stated above, it doesn't make a rats *** about the quality if you're mixin it with crap, but if you're a straight up guy, go with the Tito's.

If you have lots of time, and little money, just distill the vodka yourself, I put some skoal vodka through a britta filter 3 times and had a friend bring over some smirnoff. The smirnoff was cold, and the skoal was room temp, and we both preferred the skoal.

To say that there is no difference in the quality of the different vodka's is simply asinine. I would say that the only liquor where the difference is more pronounced would be single malt scotchs.

Bourbons tend to be a little bit closer in quality across the bard because the laws that regulate bourbon production dictate the amounts of ingredients and the aging process, more so than vodkas, tequilas and gins.

I am not saying that the more expensive vodkas are better quality, just that there are definite factors that can lead to a ****** vodka. Vodkas are also differentiated by their primary ingredient which will also play on personal preferences. Potato, grape and grain vodkas each have their own fans. I, personally, enjoy crisp grain vodkas like Ketel or Tito's. Goose/Chopin are a little bit too syrup-y for me. As with Monopolowa.

This is the first I have heard of the DS vodka, I'll seek some out though. Even though DS is the hated rival of my HS alma mater.

It all goes back to the simple idea of drink what you like.

if you blind pour me shots of:

XO (the best, hands down)
Stoli Elit
Ciroc
Zubrowka

I can tell you which is which every time.

I can also tell you that the 1st 3 (as I've said before) makes most other vodkas, even tito's, taste like hairspray, relatively speaking.

I drink vodka on the rocks though, unless it's harsh crap like goose, level or belvedere.

to those that think there's no difference, you simply have not had REALLY good vodka.

go buy a bottle of XO. pour over ice. no lime, twist, etc. sip. you will not believe how smooth it is. you will also have no desire to mix with anything when drinking it, because it actually makes the vodka taste worse than straight.

"you will also have no desire to mix with anything when drinking it, because it actually makes the vodka taste worse than straight."

that's the mark of any good liquor, but i still say you guys are victims of marketing.

seriously, if you're ever in the Temple area, PM me, and we can go do a vodka taste challenge at the nice bar here (we really have one).

the drinks are on me. seriously.

it'd be a great excuse to get wasted.

Scottsins -- I haven't had XO, although I've had the others on your list and agree that all are better than GG and Belvedere. Is XO better than Popov?

I may have to take you up on the vodka Pepsi challenge, as I may have to cover some hearings in Bell County in the near future.

I love popov. The bar I have in mind has Goose, Chopin, the usual. they also have both XO and Stoli Elit.

the only thing I've had close to those two uis Zubrowka, which is insane, since it only costs $20/bottle. It's a ************ to locate though.
