Tailgating permitted around the stadium? We aren't getting there early enough to hit a bar, wanted to make sure we could sneak in a few pops before heading in.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure tailgating is permitted. Beware, though..TSU can be aggy lite.
Saw a big sign last year that said, Saw 'em off, hell, SHOOT 'em off. Morons.

just poor it while you in your vehicle and drink out of opaque cups and we will be fine. don't flaunt it and they'll leave us alone.

Yes you can drink alcohol in the parking lots around the stadium where people will be tailgating. Yes, there are people out there tailgating for this game right now.

SAN MARCOS - Over 2,000 tickets are sold and a newly renovated facility awaits the Texas State Bobcats when they play host to the No. 4 Texas Longhorns in the 2009 baseball home opener Tuesday night at 6:05 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility will begin at 4 p.m. and is open to the general public. Tailgating for the event has been designated along Charles Austin Drive and will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday will mark the 38th meeting between Texas State and Texas with the rivalry dating back to 1986. Texas leads the all-time series, 9-28. The Bobcats last regular season win over the Longhorns came in 2005 with a 2-1 extra-inning decision in Austin.

Texas State is fresh off its Southland Conference opening weekend, improving to a 6-2 overall record with a three-game sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Bobcats offense scored seven or more runs over the Islanders with freshman Tyler Sibley recording the bulk of the weight, crossing the plate eight times. Sibley is currently batting .423 as the second-best bat on the team with a pair of extra-base hits and seven RBI.

Bret Atwood leads the team, batting .484 over the past eight outings. Atwood has hit safely in each game and notched a pair of extra-base hits, as well, and batted in a total six RBI. Paul Goldschmidt backs up the sophomore with a .353 average and a team-best 11 RBI. The preseason All-SLC first baseman and 2008 Hitter of the Year recorded the Bobcats first home run this season on a two-run blast against TCU.

Texas State's offense will be challenged by the Longhorns pitching staff that is out to a successful 9-0 start and a compiled 1.15 ERA. Brandon Workman leads the staff with a 0.00 and a 2-0 record, having pitched 16.0 innings allowing just two hits and amassing 17 strikeouts.

But Tuesday Texas will use right-hander Austin Dicharry who will be making his second start and third appearance. The freshman has worked 7.0 innings and allowed just three hits and no runs for a 0.00 ERA, as well.

The Longhorns are coming off a 9-0 win at home against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Workman was on the mound in the decision and recorded the team's 21st-no hitter in school history.

Texas matches the pitching staff with an offense that is batting .322. Fresno State transfer David Hernandez leads the herd with a .448 average, posting 13 hits and five RBIs.

The Horns offense will face newcomer Michael Russo in his third appearance on the mound. The Lon Morris transfer opened the season with 7.0 solid innings against Arkansas State in the Bobcats season opener, surrendering just one run on four hits. Russo took the mound in Texas State's meeting with TCU and was handed his first loss in the 8-2 decision. The junior has fanned eight batters in his 11.0 innings on the mound and posts a 2.45 ERA.

After spending their first eight games on the road, Texas State will remain at home after the Tuesday decision with Texas, hosting Purdue in a three-game series. First pitch against the Boilermakers is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
