Drinking in public? Yes or no?

A golf course I belong to recently had an incident. A foursome got three sheets to the wind drunk to the point that one of them drove his cart off a hill, rolled it about 50 yards and is not in a veggie state in a hospital. To say they were drunk is an understatement.

However, my question is whether there's anyone else besides me who tires of people getting **** faced in public? I'm not a social conservative by the stretch of anyone's imagination but I loathe going to football games where people are three sheets to the wind before kickoff. ( From what I understand, the NFL is having a huge problem with this.)

Don't get me wrong. I love booze. I love wine. I live high end bourbon. However, I hate people that can't handle their booze in public and the jack assedry that takes place in public.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

I know this is completely beside your point, but it doesn"t really sound like it was in a place open to the public, if you "belong". (Belong is really a funny word for the situation now that I think of it). Anyway, I have never been that drunk, well not in many, many years even though I have been a drunk in private. I don't really come into contact with "that drunk" you speak of, but it's almost always a very unpleasant experience when it does happen. That's why it is against the law.

That being said, it may be that you come into contact with far more drunks than you know because they are behaving and, thus, not noticeable.

People that can't handle their booze shouldn't drink. Having said that, I know it rarely works that way. I agree with you DeadHorse. Many years ago my stepdad got a dwi on the way to the golf course at 10:00am...jeez!

Real Sports had something about the NFL issue a while back and they found that people were getting hammered before the game. That means they're three sheets to the wind at noon.

Invariably, those are the people you end up sitting next to....

Difference between drunk and sloppy drunk. Hell, I spend a lot of days drunk--rarely sloppy drunk. Long as you're not a chore to other people, I don't give a rat's *** what you do. Once you become a problem for me, though (as in a sloppy drunk), we have an issue.

I got hammered before the first football game last season. I mean, hammered. I drank at least 16 beers and half a bottle of Jager at the tailgate before the game, and then I continued with a flask of Crown during the game. But I was a happy drunk, and I think everyone around me more enjoyed my antics than thought I was obnoxious. I was not abusive or angry, and I didn't go into a crying jag. I was having a good time.

Now, I'm not proud of it, but at least I was a happy drunk.

And I had a designated driver, which was good, because there was no way I could have managed a drive anywhere.

As long as one can handle their alcohol and not be abusive to others, I dont care if they are drunk in public or not. Once they become abusive to others then they should be held accountable.

Texanne is a very fun drunk!

Isn't the whole point of the "drunk in public" law to get rid of said obnoxious drunks?

(Cause I've never been obnoxious. Or drunk. Or both in succession... uh huh...)

If you are really asking if it should be prohibited to imbibe in public, I would say no, but there are obvious cases where you wish people had observed such a policy. Like driving golf carts off cliffs, stuff like that.

Well, yeah, I needed some assistance negotiating stairs. But I didn't get sick and the resultant hangover was not too bad.

Still and all, I won't be indulging at that rate this season. I've got a liver to think about ..

I will be drunk heading into the game this weekend, of this I have little doubt, three hours later I will probably be near sober is not completely sober.

I like to drink to get the buzz then maintain it without getting hammered beyond recognition. Some people regulate well after catching the buzz, some folks keep going until they are shitfaced, passed out or are out of booze.

I also agree that it helps if you are a "happy drunk" rather than the ******* anger managemnt variety.

I would bet that more than 1/3 of all occupants in the stadium this Saturday night are legally intoxicated at some point during the game.

I am one by any of the "tests" and I think most of the tests are ********. I think it means that you have surrendered or lost or given some of the control of your life to alcohol. Letting alcohol borrow that control occasionally does not qualify in my mind. FWIW.

I stated the "test" I agreed with. I think you can flunk a lot of the "tests" and still not be an alcoholic and you can pass a lot of the "tests and be one. If you've ever had to undergo treatment for alcohol abuse you come away with an understanding of the issue differently than it is framed by the "tests". I'm talking about the "have you ever forgotten something" "have you ever been late for work" tests. A failing mark on most of those questions is very likely going to be as a result of the way I framed it, but not necessarily.

Some of the funniest things I have ever been witness to were done by drunk people. So although there are times when they can be bothersome those moments of gold make up for it.
