Dion,
The drawing of the Texas Track Club (based out of Odessa JC) is inaccurate. Susan was six feet tall, thin with auburn hair. I don't remember a blonde, but NO male who ever saw Paula Walters run can forget her. Not much over five feet. Jet black hair that must have used three cans of spray to keep it in place, but the most memorable part was her upper body regions, which we jokingly said could break the tape two yards before she crossed the finish line. They were older than I was, but even in my youth, I had great appreciation for God's architectural design.
In an era before universities offered women's sports, women's events were like band performances at football halftimes - and excuse to go to the restroom and concession stand. Susan, Paula, et al kept people in their seats. Sexist comment? Yes, but truthful, and they helped promote women's track everywhere they went.
ladies. Sorry the generation before you did not give you the opportunities that exist today.
