Drama in Waco next weekend?

I haven't studied scenarios with all the teams, and haven't looked at all at rain out implications, but looking at the standings and the schedule one thing jumps out: OSU @ BU next weekend may be the equivalent of a "play in" matchup for who gets to dance in OKC. The way I figure it, OSU needs to take two of three to escape ninth place.

Reason to root for OSU: liking Frank Anderson much more than Steve Smith.

Reason to root for BU: keep the crowds down at the conference tourney and give Texas "better" game start times.

I think OSU has to sweep in order to get in. Baylor is 9-13 (2 games rained out against OU) and OSU is 8-16. If Baylor went 1-2, they would be 10-15 (.400) and OSU would be 10-16 (.370). An OSU sweep would leave Baylor 9-16 (.360) and OSU 11-16 (.407).

Oops, Thanks H83, I misread my own calculations. There are two ways OSU can escape ninth place: 3-0 as you mention, or 2-0 with a rainout.

If OSU sweeps Baylor, it will be the first time that Baylor will have missed the Big 12 Tourney since inception of the conference. OU is the only other school to have made the tourney every year. OSU had made it every year until last year when they finished 9th.

OSU just got swept at home for only the 3rd time in something like 29 yrs by aggy. The Horns and Mizzu swept them in stoolwater in 2007.

i thought Frank would have made OSU a contender. They seem to get worse every year.

...and what happened to Steve Smith, by the way?

I'm rooting for Baylor for the very reason you listed. The Big XII tournament is always more fun (and with lots more elbow room) when one or both Okie schools aren't there.

It's too bad they both won't be sitting it out.

Kind of glad Baylor got in. Kind of hope they can move up to 7th or higher. I mean 4 games in 3 parks 42 innings and won by 20-12, but I think they played Texas tough. Okay UH and ORU and New Mexico if you insist. Baylor just seemed to be in the last 3 games at least. I don't think I caught the first game this year.
