Downtown Austin Tex-Mex

Manuel's on Congress between 3rd and 4th? Never eaten there but have heard good things about it.

Take a cab to Juan in a Million just across the 3-5. Should not cost more than maybe 11 bucks round trip if even that much.

Seriously? You're asking about good TexMex in Austin? You can't go more than a few blocks in Austin without finding at least edible TexMex.

The Tex-Mex Mamba took 'em all out. Most of 'em at least. It is also called the Mexi-Mamba.

1. walk up Red River to Jaime's. Definitely Authentic

2. You could try Cantina Laredo on 3rd and Colorado, I didn't think it was all that, but it is serviceable. It's a chain.

3. Manuel's on Congress and 3rd is pretty good. Maybe a little too restaranty. Tableclothes on the tables.

4. El Sol Y Luna is good. Haven't been to the new location on 6th yet though.

5. Serranos on Red River at Symphony Square. Classic Tex Mex.

6. There is a Taco Shack at Congress and 4th in the Frost Bank Tower, but it is breakfast and lunch only. If you want something quick, like breakfast tacos, that would be pretty good.

Of course there are better places you could drive to, but i would say those are your bets for downtown within walking distance.

I would recommend either Jaime's or Serranos.

Thanks everyone! I have choices. Which of these places are open for breakfast? I''m looking to order some gool ol huevos rancheros with a barbacoa taco on the side and a Big Red or liquor. After that, I'm gonna go ugly early and wait for the game.

Now you've added critical information. Get a cab. Go to 1800 East 6th Street. There you will find Dario's. Very good coffee. No alcohol and no Big Red(that's for BBQ anyway), so have yourself a traditional Mexican drink...Aguas Frescas. They have great migas. They have your huevos(very good). My recommendation is the Dario's Deluxe with migas. In my personal opinion, this is the best Tex-Mex breakfast...period. Get a cab for the return trip or just stroll west on 6th. Now go ugly and get liquor.

Had breaksfast at Angie's on Sunday morning. Beans sucked, tortillas sucked, potatoes sucked, barbacoa sucked, chips and salsa were fresh and eggs were ok. I'd give it a D. I live in New Mexico but I was born and raised in San Antonio so I feel I'm somewhat of an authority on Tex-Mex. Maybe it was just a bad day.

Had an argument with my girfriend because she told the waitress that she wanted her migas with scrambled eggs. verses over-easy. Get it?

Wish you had gone to Dario's...hard to beat. I've never had breakfast at Angies...in fact I don't think they served breakfast at the old location. Never had issues with lunch, though. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Best mexican breakfast in Austin is at Taquaria Chapala on east Cesar Chavez. Before 11 AM, less than three dollars will get you scrambled eggs with bacon, ham- whatever meat you want, beans, potatoes, and tortillas. Thier coffee sucks though.

Juan in a million is good for breakfast, don't bother getting anything but the Don Juan though. The rest of their food isn't worth trying. Good coffee at Juan's though.

They're only open until like 2 or three.

Even when there's a helly line, I've never waited more than 15 mins for a table. They have a TON of seating, and since most of what they serve is the Don Juan, people come in and out pretty quick.
