just put us on the wrong side of the bubble at this point...kind of hard to argue with him. his tv partner said,, "we're in the newsroom wondering if Texas would find a way to lose to cellar dweller colorado..."

yeah. if he wants to predict that Texas will miss, that is one thing, but certainly they would be in if the season ended right now.

9-7 conference record will get them in, IMO.

Need to go at least 3-3 over the next 6 games. I think they'll go at least 4-2, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Hell, for all I know, they win all 6 games, but that's certainly not something I'm banking on.

I'd feel a lot better at 10-6 instead of 9-7. The conference strength just isn't there. Our OOC wins are good but 10-6 and we're in for sure.

Just realize how difficult 4-2 is going to be:

A&M on the road
OU at home
Texas Tech at home
OSU on the road
Baylor at home
KU on the road

The only ones I feel good about right now are Tech and Baylor in Austin.

I just think a winning conference record gets this team in with the nonconference slate they played. It might be an 11th or 12th seed, but I think they'll be in --- which is all I care about at this point.

I hear you both Bob and SL Express. SL, a continuation of the NCAA tournament streak is all I've cared about since DJ announced last spring, but it's become a tad more desperate lately. Bob, everyone is talking about how weak the pool of bubble contenders is this season, so 8-8 might be do-able, but I'm with SL Express in the thought that we need a winning record in league to feel good about a bid. A win tonight would sure as hell help with that! On College Gameday with Bob Knight, Reese, Jay Bilas, and Digger broadcast from Madison last Saturday, they did the side-by-side "In or Out" blind comparison with Texas and Tennessee, Bilas is the only one who chose Texas for the bid. But that was before we beat Colorado. James' two misses at the line with 1.6 seconds left caused me a fever! Does anyone think we win tonight? If not, we need OU at home or Ok State in Stillwater. I will say the Longhorns are showing improvement so maybe a 1 point win in College Station is possible?

Indy, I would have liked to see that comparison between Texas and Tennessee, although I am puzzled, because I don't think that either team is on the bubble.

I'm not saying they should feel secure at 8-8 -- just that if they are in the pool at 8-8 they are not sinking to the bottom.

I think they can win the rest of their games, so, yeah, I think they can win tonight (and they are a small favorite), but I am no more certain of any particular game than anyone else on this board.

Bob, the gameDay crew is very clear about that their In-and Out game doesn't mean a team doesn't make the dance. It is only a comparison of the relative merits of two teams vis-a-vis each other. I am with you that currently Texas is in. I think they'll find 9 conference wins, maybe even 10. I think we can win tonight, but I am amazed that we are actually favored. I'd attribute that to the hubris of Texas bettors which I've observed in the past in Vegas. I think somehow we win at home versus OU, Baylor, and Tech. The OU game is the only one on the schedule where the Texas homecourt is a true advantage........

I see only one certain win left on our schedule=home vs tech...a couple of probables--home vs Baylor and away at OSU...and the remainder as doubtful tonight at aggy, home against ou and away at ku. we'll see what happens but I believe tonight's game will tell the tale for the rest of the season.

I'll take the three wins you list as probable right now, no questions asked; just as long as the total equates to 9 conference wins in the regular season, I'll take it. I think the three remianing home games will be wins. That Oklahoma team is good, but I don't see it as great, so I don't think they run the table. We will certainly need the game more, and I thought Texas got some calls in Boulder, surely we'll get some in Austin. Can you say "zone defense"? Maybe, just maybe the Big 12 referees see it as Texas deserves to make the tournament? Gary Johnson was sure allowed to be awfully physical way outside against the Buffalo's anyway.

with this squad NOTHING is a given (with the possible exception of the tech game at home) and while I agree with you that ou isn't a dominating suretrip to the final four type team, I'm afraid they will manhandle us here...our home crowd isn't a big factor for us sadly

No, the crowd will be a factor. Saturday night, 8 p.m., Gameday, Vitale, etc. The Erwin Center gets a rockin' once or twice a year, and this will be one of those times.

nordberg---hope you're right. I suspect ou will have a ton of fans here too however because the last several games the upper deck has been pretty much empty

OU hasnt put away a good team this year so I see the road games at Texas and Missouri each as a crapshoot. I hope Im wrong.

It won't mean a **** if Texas doesn't decide to play hard. The squad as a whole seems to think they can just turn on and off the focusness, the high effort, hard play.

The mental makeup of this squad is horrible. They do have it in them to play hard, with focusness, with high effort. I just don't see them giving a ****.

I would like to think I was wrong but that would only be proven with a string of wins either now or after somehow sneaking into the tournament. Showme is my refrain for this squad. Show me that you deserve the tourney bid and if you get in then show the world you were underrated.

Doug gets paid to make statements like that. He looked at the remaining schedule and made the easy call. Texas needs to wake up or he will be right.

So if they're not pressing, they're not playing hard?

Look, I'm not trying to be pedantic here. Just because they're playing sloppy, or not making smart plays doesn't mean they're not playing hard, much less choosing not to play hard.

I think playing hard is one thing they have going for them.
