Double LCD Monitor

My Brother in law has a sweet setup with two lcd monitors sitting next to each other. The mouse moves from one monitor to another. It acts like one big monitor and you can drag windows across the two monitors. Does anyone know what's needed to set this up? Do you need special hardware or software? How much does it cost and how difficult is it to do?

You can either install two identical video cards or buy a dual head card for anywhere from $50 - $250 bucks. After the hardware is installed all you do is right click on the desktop, go to properties>settings and check the box that says something to the effect of "extend capabilities".

Its very easy and inexpensive and you will wonder why you ever went without it.

If you use a laptop and have a spare monitor, its a simple as plugging the monitor into the port on the back of your laptop.

and they dont have to be LCD's.

my 9600xt has the analog out, and DVI out. you buy an adaptor that will make the DVI into an analog out also.

At work, the traders use 4x 20" LCD monitors placed in a semi-circle. The use a dual VGA output video card and each output has a VGA spliting cable on it. It makes the desktop huge. If I could justify the monitor expense I would do it...
