Dorian Leonard has narrowed his recruiting list to two Big 12 rivals.
And the Longview receiver is planning on verbally committing to Oklahoma or Texas before beginning his senior season.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder cut his list to his two favorite schools after also receiving offers from Florida State, Texas Tech, Oregon State and San Diego State. He has gone back and forth on whether to commit before or after playing his senior season, but is leaning toward the former.
“Right now I’m probably going to end up committing over the summer,” Leonard said. “And right now it’s just those two schools.”
The consensus three-star prospect has visited both schools once. He went to Oklahoma for a junior day in early February, then picked up the Texas offer while at the school for a track meet in late March.
He’s looking to make an additional visit this summer.
“I plan on going down there to Texas sometime this summer whenever me and mom have the time,” Leonard said.
The extra visit could be key as Leonard tries to differentiate between the Big 12 rivals.
“With both of them, I’m looking at their incoming rosters and the people they have and the offenses they’re running,” Leonard said. “They’ve both got basically the same educational system. They’re both going to train you as best they can to keep your grades up.
“They’re basically still one and the same now.”
Leonard figures to be a focal point of Longview’s offense in the fall after catching 21 passes for 444 yards and four touchdowns last season.
Recruiting website 247Sports.com ranks him the No. 43 receiver in the nation. Rivals.com tabs him as the No. 51 receiver in the country, while Scout.com ranks him No. 78.
Rivals’ Lone Star Recruiting and 247Sports both rank him the No. 41 player in the state.
