Door Knob/Lock Replacement

Ok, so I got the front door knob lock and deadbolt successfully replaced. I'm working on an interior door (bedroom). The new knob that I bought have the screw holes on each side -- easy access.

The problem is that after I pop off the cover of the old one I cant get access to the screws. Do I have to have a special little screwdriver for this? Am I missing something obvious?

Fairly cryptic description, but if you remove the knob, you can remove the cover and then have access to the screws. I'm not sure that is remotely helpful, but it's hard to tell what your problem is. Generally, you remove a knob and then can pull out the knob and stem that goes thru the mechanism. You then go to the side of the door and remove two more screws and remove the mechanism.

What screws are you talking about?

I'm sorry its just hard to paint the picture for ya. On a normal setup you have one knob/cover and on the other side you have the two screws that go through the door and screw into the opposite plate. My screws arent accessible on either side -- they are under the plate.

If I could get one of the knobs off that would work -- I pulled and twisted but neither came off easy. How do I get one of the knobs off?

There is often a screw that holds the knob onto the stem that passes throught the door on each side. The key is going to be removing the knob. I'm in an ancient house and I haven't looked at newer knobs in a while, but there is going to be some way that the knob is attached to the stem. Look on the knob itself on both sides to see how at least one of them can be removed.

Are you saying that you cant get under the cover to access the screws? if so, a lot of the time you have to use a hex key to loosen a small screw for access.

The knob on the screw side comes off. There is either a hex screw or a tab (button) that you push in and pull the knob off. Then it is gravy.
