donut stores

I swear its difficult to find a donut shop that isn't krispy kreme in Austin. I haven't come across a mom/pop type place that has good kolaches/pig-in-a-blanket and donuts as well. (please don't turn this into the kolache definition thread)

Does anybody have any good ones in the vicinity of 290 between mopac and 35?

There's a shipley's on Brodie near Davis Ln (about 1/2 way b/w William cannon and slaughter).

I think there's still a mom-and-pop donut place on 290 at Industrial Oaks.

There's a "river city donuts" on William Cannon at Manchaca, and I think they also have on on stassney. It's essentially just a break-away Dunkin Donuts, but I had a jalepeno sausage pig-in-a-blanket there once that was pretty good.

I'd say it's difficult to find a donut shop that is Krispy Kreme. Isn't there only like 2 of them in town?

There is a donut place on Anderson Mill between 183 & 620. I'm still loyal to the donut shop on the drag. I doubt it has good kolaches, though. It kept me alive when the dorm cafetarias were shut down. It is also a more low-key post-date hangout than Amys.

Don't know if it's the same place mishatx referenced, but there is a mom and pop store on Brodie in a little strip center south of William Cannon, on the west side of Brodie near the 7-11, run by Korean folks. All sorts of good stuff, including pigs in a blanket and large variety of pastries. Across the street from the Valero station.

Not really in your area, but the donuts at Donut 7 on Burnet Rd. just north of Braker in a little strip center are the best I've had. It's a mom and pop and they are there every morning at 5:00. The kolaches are okay, but the donuts are melt in your mouth when you get them fresh out of the fryer.

i want to second what Unpainted suggested. Mrs. Johnson's is quite tasty and they have 'em fresh a few times a day. Fresh as in still hot. They make donuts for several places around town.

They are mom and pop for sure.

Third it --

Mrs. Johnson's on Airport.

I might just go there now. They always seem to throw in some extra doughnut holes even when you buy just a couple of doughnuts.

Yeah, I went to Mrs. J's shortly after I posted. I live fairly close to there. I didn't get any extra doughnut holes this time but my doughnuts were warm. Mmm, yummy goodness.

I also like Ken's. I'm not a big fan of Krispy Kreme's or Round Rock dougnuts. Eh, whatever.

Mrs. is really short for Marobarish, Indian for Stanley.

I've never been able to go to Mrs. Johnson's.

I need to make it someday.

I did try KC Donuts after lunch at Evangeline's the other day. The girl was very nice. I told her about hearing about their store online. She thought that was cool. Donuts were good too.

Al, you need more symbols as a sig line. Perhaps a cowbell?
