Dom Dimaggio RIP

great article

Tough to live under his brothers shadow - great career that many have no idea about.

I discovered as very young child that Dom and I share the same b'day of Feb 12th. Although that is also the birthday of Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin (both 1809, ironically), I was always mad...at my parents I guess...that I didn't share a b'day with a "better" ball player like Michael Jordan or Nolan Ryan. That is, until I read about what a good career Dom actually had, which of course was greatly overshadowed by his brother's success.

RIP, Dom.

David Halberstam has written a great book on Ted Williams and his close teamates from the Boson Red SOx (I can't remember the name of it) and he also wrote Summer of '49

Hell anything Halberstam has written was great

I remember hearing this once as a kid:

Who hits the ball and makes it go?
Dominic DiMaggio.
Who runs the bases fast, not slow?
Dominic DiMaggio.
Who's better than his brother Joe?
Dominic DiMaggio.
But when it comes to getting dough,
They give it all to brother Joe.
