Dog kennel or training facility

Going out of town for about a week in March and I need something to do with the dog. Normally we just have someone watch him, but everyone seems busy during this time, so we were thinking about sending him to either a kennel or boarding school. The two options that have been recommended so far are Triple Crown and Taurus Training. Triple Crown offers 2 weeks of boarding and obedience training for $550, whereas Taurus would be more of a kennel only for $30/night. Does anyone have experience with either of these, or is there a better option that I'm overlooking?

I have heard good things about both places. If you want training too, you know your option. That sounds to be a good way to go. Also with the nice weather at that time you will be having lots of time to reinforce the commands and training. But you have to be consistent, patient and everybody in your family do the exact same thing. You will be told this again by the trainers.

But go by and check them out first time without your dog as it will be a distraction to you. Then if the vibe feels right, ask to take your dog with you next time. But observe how often they have play time and human contact. Pay a little extra for the added package of walks and play time.

I suggest you have them teach your dog water retrieval or fetching. This is the greatest thing in the world for many reasons. If ever I have to go somewhere for a good amount of time I like to take my pup swimming for a couple of hours. She is spent the rest of the day. It is like I don't have a dog then. (except for the snoring)

I don't know how far North you are but you might also check out Spanish Oaks Hunting Club in Taylor.

They do boarding and training.

Looks like you already have great options, but Canine Hilton on E. MLK is outstanding. Laura has trained 4 of my labs. Couldn't be happier.

I am a yellow lab and did not like Harlan. But he is good giving treats.

*note, I am not a yellow lab nor do I know if Harlan is good or bad. I have heard he is good though. But what do I know, I am a yellow lab.*
