Doesn't the WH have better things to do?

"A small weekly paper in California claims that a White House official asked it to remove a sentence from a “benign” feature about Marine One because it reflected poorly on first lady Michelle Obama.

In an email to The Daily Caller, Gina Channell-Allen, president of the Pleasanton Weekly in Pleasanton, California, said that her paper “received a call from the White House asking us to take out part of the story because it reflected poorly on the First Lady.”

The story in question was a soft feature about Marine One titled, “Inside Marine One, President Obama’s helicopter,” that ran in the paper on April 20. Pleasanton staffer Amory Gutierrez “didn’t get to ride in ‘Marine One,’” she wrote in her story, “but I did get the VIP tour and took photographs of the otherwise unseen aircraft.”

She also wrote a sentence that the White House thought made FLOTUS look snooty.

“Basically the reporter said that the First Lady didn’t speak to the pilots but acknowledged them by making eye contact,” Allen wrote in her email.

Allen says she “complied” with the White House’s request “because it was not worth making a fuss over.”

She added, “I thought it was interesting, though, that the [White House] was concerned enough about image to contact a little weekly paper in Pleasanton.”

The White House communications office did not return requests for comment.

Allen said she emailed TheDC after reading about the San Francisco Chronicle’s recent spat with the White House communications office.

The only reasons this is interesting are 1. would the WH really have done this and 2. Knowing what theWH did to the SF Chronicle makes this story relevant to WH attitude toward the press and 3. it was interesting to read something other than about osama.
Still I am having a hard time believing this. How would the WH even know what is written in such small paper and even if the WH did read it doesn't anyone know Freedom of Speech applies to the media? Good lord this is petty.
Hopefully the WH will refute this althought they got called on trying to lie about what they did to that SF Chronicle.

the current administration is basically a movie production unlike anything we have ever seen in american politics. everything is scripted, even the most minor, insignificant details. public appearance and q&a's are scipted. obama uses a prompter at press conferences for god's sake. prior administrations are guilty of this as well. in the modern era, image is everything but it has never been taken to this level. The WH has even grown and helped evolve and adminster new media. they just dont like anyone else to use it.

IIRC, Nixon had an enemies list. Clinton had people who asked him tough questions audited. GWB and Cheney agreed that a reporter was a "major league *******."

I'm not surprised that Obama's people are keeping score, but I am surprised that they think a weekly newspaper is that big a deal.

Do you think people on the National Security team were pulled off of their work to do this? Do you suppose that the economic advisers were consulted about the letter to news outlet?

Those are rhetorical questions, by the way. It is not surprising that the White House media team would review an article that could go national on the wire and want to correct something that they think is inaccurate.

The sentence about the First Lady not speaking to the pilots does seem to indicate that she does not deign to do so. My guess is that on a helicopter speaking is not always easy due to noise, so Ms. Obama greets the crew with a look.

I think the big question here is don't you or whomever fed you your raw material for this thread have anything better to do than wonder what better things other people may have to do?

Fuckin' A on your fantasy world there, Rex. A-1!!!

You got Horn671's back, you da man!

I look forward to your other imaginings of how the world works.

I am highly aware of the multiple threads initiated on a daily basis by certain posters critical of this Admin. Rarely do I chime in. You are really stretching, though, in your response to the OP. I will carry on imagining, constantly striving to attain your level of intelligence and wit.

C'mon you neo cons, quit your whining....Controlling the print media is perfectly natural.

BAD weekly paper! BAD! Censor the unflattering lines about Michelle NOW! I command you to purge it!

Land of the free (pause)

Given the petty nature of right-wing responses to anything having to do with President Obama, one has to wonder if the real issue isn't politics or philosophy but something much deeper and much darker.
