Does the narrative change for Democrats

On Wednesday morning after super Tuesday, I sat down at my computer and for the first time in my life donated $50.00 to a campaign. The campaign was Obama’s not because I agree with his policies or rhetoric but instead to stop Hillary Clinton.

Now the democrats may have a similar choice to make on March 4th, 2008. It is now clear that Hillary Clinton will not get the votes needed to overcome Obama both in pledge delegates or the popular vote. She still may win the nomination with super-delegates but the way things are going it would be perceived as a stolen election.

So do democrats decide to keep Hillary Clinton in the race at the risk of a fiasco with Michigan and Florida and of a brokered convention that could easily split the party and provide the Republicans the best formula for success in November or do democrats in Ohio and Texas decide to give a big victory to Obama.

Some of us republicans have been campaigning to stop Hillary but on March 4th it may be the democrats that defeat her overwhelmingly for the good of the party.

I did the same thing (only it was $100, but my reactions was that I thought Obama had the best sense of national direction and could set a new tone for political dialogue for the country, free from the past. There are points where I don't agree with him, but overall I think he is the best choice for the party and the country.

I don't think you could expect Hilliary to change her tune. Her hunger for this, and her inner conviction that she is the right answer, or the only answer for the Democratic party will keep her in the fight all the way to the convention floor. It is not a new scenario for the party, but maybe the platform will incorporate some of her ideas.

About the only positive I see in Hilliary taking on Barak is that she certainly is seasoning him and giving him the experience to cope with opposition.

For what it is worth, it will be far easier for the Democrats to emerge from their convention and unite behind the ticket than it will be for the Republicans, in my view. The Democratic fight is for the face of the party; the Republican fight is a struggle for the soul of the party, both figuratively and in some quarters, literally.
