Does citranella work?

no, but you'll think it will.

Actually I have seen evidence that it does, but I have read studies that it doesn't.

I can tell you I don't think it attracts mosquitoes so you are no worse off for using it.

I usually buy some cutter for spraying the grass a day before a big event.

if tonight is any example, no. i sat directly between two citronella candles, and mosquitos were still all over me.

There is a product I have seen sold at Cabela's that does work. There are hunters deep in the blind that use it and it repels them. It is powered by a small propane tank and is effective for X amount of sq. ft.

I forget what it is and am too lazy to find it but I know a guy who used two on his backyard patio and not one bite was had by anybody at the get together.

Sounds like loop is talking about a "mosquito magnet". It uses propane to emulate the scent of something that mosquitoes like to bite, then traps and kills them once they are lured in. I think that they cost around $200 plus you have to fill up a propane tank every month or so.

Personally, I have had good luck with a product called "cutter" You can get a bottle of it a Lowes for around $10. It attaches to the end of a garden hose and you spray it in your yard. It cuts down on mosquitos significantly for about 3 weeks for me. A bottle usually lasts the summer for me.

Oh, and Ihave burned citronella candles but Im not too impressed with their effectiveness. It seems like they help a little but not much.

the only down side of the yard spray stuff is that it makes the lightning bugs disappear. i can deal w/ a few misquito bites to see me some lightning bugs. i loves me some lightning bugs.

but the yard spray stuff does work. citranella, not so much.

Maybe it works, but to me the idea of putting something on my patio that will attract even more mosquitos so it can trap them just sounds like a recipe for more mosquitos.

Mosquitoes find you by the CO2 in your exhaled breath. If you invested in several scuba tanks with rebreathers, you should be able to eliminate your problem.

Monster Magnet = $520.00!!

It's worth it if it really, really works, but i am so sick of spending money on crap that doesn't do jack. I feel like my desperation to kill mosquitos clouds my judgment. (could be blood loss)

I felt ripped off when i bought that Cutter Spray for $10 and got eaten up by mosquitos two days later!
