Does Bags make it in on the 1st ballot?

Don't care what ballot he is on as long as Biggio is inducted with him. It would be only fitting.

I am a firm believer that nearly all the top players early in that era took PEDs. McGwire isn't in. Palmeiro isn't in. Both undoubtedly took them, and both in my opinion were better than Bags. That era of baseball is going to leave a void in the hall of fame. However, deservedly so.

1st ballot HOF'ers are rare. No way Bagwell gets in on the first vote - hopefully he won't be penalized too much for the era he played in and get in eventually.

Biggio is a shoo-in to get in, though maybe not on the 1st ballot.

a shame that Juan Gonzalez couldn't stay healthy, responsible, motivated, etc. Had the potential to be one of the greats.

Should definitely get in but it may take a try or two. He will be helped in the voting by being a non-******** like many others were.

Bagwell, no... PED's tainted that generation/ Era for power hitters and pitchers.

Blyleven, hell yes. One of the 10 best SP's I've seen.

I look at Bagwell's stats, and then compare them to Jason Giambi or Chipper Jones, and I don't see much difference.

3000 hits? Nope.
500 home runs? Nope.

There is a gap of "recent" quality first baseman in the Hall for sure. But since none of the aforementioned can hold a candle to McGwire or Palmeiro stat-wise, I think it would be wrong to invite a bunch of runner-ups instead, solely due to them not being implicated in steroids (or reformed in Giambi's case).

Bags didn't get in first time (41%) - and I didn't see him as a first timer -,but should in 3 or 4 years. He has the stats, but was a low profile guy; no flash, little splash, just a real good, steady player who deserves being in.

He'll get in. I found it kind of funny that Roberto Alomar was such a shoe-in for a 2nd ballot, while it took Blyleven (the "original" Dutch Oven) so long.

Maybe if old Bert had spit on a few more umps, he'd be more beloved.

PED's or not, I think Bagwell was confronted with the same issues as all of the other good players from 1993-99. Whether or not to alter their offensive game to increase their own value.

Bags hit 6 HR in 212 minor league games with the Red Sox organization. He was known as a Wade Boggs type hitter, and looked to be his replacement at 3B. Instead, the Sox got Scott Cooper more invovled and used Bags as trade bait for Larry Andersen.

The strike season for Bagwell is pretty telling. His 39 HR in 110 games doubled his output from an entire 1993 season. Even if he increased his workout regimen and ate a lot of protein bars and not HGH, it's guilt by association, like Brady Anderson.

He'll get in the hall, but I think we've entered a new phase of the HOF where only 1 or 2 guys get in each year, and it will probably be someone who was "snubbed" their first couple opportunities. Almost like a mandatory 8-year waiting period instead of 5 years.
