Does Anyone watch the Biggest Loser?

I normally hate reality TV but must admit I really enjoy this show. It definitely rates on the unintentional comedy scale, plus I'm always intrigued to see what people look like after a dramatic weight loss. This season's got some definite potential. Tracy is a whack job.

Definitely a show made for DVR though, waaay to long unless you can fast forward through commercials and the staged scenes. Either that or you could just watch the last 20-30 minutes for the weigh in's and see all you really need to see.

My wife likes the show, so we both watch it.

I have to admit, I like to see when people succeed in losing a lot of weight. But, I really hate all the staged scenes with the trainers being "shocked" by what happened the night before or whatever (like they don't know what's going on) and the product placements.

But, what really gets me is that the show only has something like 30-40 minutes of new content each week. The rest is flashbacks from the previous week or "after the break..." scenes. It really seems like the show could be a reasonably tight hour or a only somewhat condensed 30 minutes each week. But, 2 hours? Not that much really happens.

Unfortunately these "success" stories are often temporary. They certainly succeed in losing tremendous amounts of weight when there's six figures on the line, millions of viewers watching, and professional trainers holding their hand 24/7. Problem is once the cameras are off and they have to return to their life in the real world (which is exactly where their bad habits were developed to begin with), they rarely keep it off.

Makes for good TV though!

White Castle, do you know thats been the case with past BL contestants? I'm just asking. The ones they show at the reunion seem to be doing pretty good. I wonder what the statistics are though.

I know some of the past contestants (including one winner) would up gaining all the weight back. I would suspect that going back to your old ways is much more common among those who spent less time at the ranch.

I would imagine that the folks who were there for 2-3 months made lifestyle changes (not all, but many).

I think it might be easy to guess who are going to stick with it versus those who don't based on how they bought in with the program. There are those who do the workouts, but complain and try to half-*** it (pun intended) as much as possible. Then, there are those who bust their asses every time without the trainers having to ride them.

I believe they made a comment on a recent episode that about 35% end up keeping all of it off.

I didn't mean to iimply that the all gained it back. As the poster mentioned above, the show referenced how one of the winners had and when I saw a People.com "Where are they now?" article it curiously only had contestants from the most recent 2 or 3 seasons. I made the assumption that there weren't any contestants from the earlier seasons who kept the wait off for them to include.

I'm sure there are some success stories but like a lot of people who go on crash diets and lose weight quickly I'd be willing to bet most of them put the weight back on.

I caught the comment a couple weeks back that they eat 1200 calories a day and are supposed to burn 9000. That's insane!
