Help!
I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago regarding a doctor's bill which has now gone to court due to nonpayment. Long story short, my insurance company refused to pay as they claimed it was the result of injuries obtained in a car accident. Thing is, the bill is for diabetes testing which, obviously, has nothing to do with a car wreck.
Anyway, my wife and I were served papers today for a bill which was originally around $500. With legal fees, etc., it is now up to almost $800.
I'll deal with the insurance company later. My first line of thought is how to deal with the doctor's office. I can say that the collection dept is apparently IN the doctor's office so I'm not dealing with a third party.
I'm planning on going to the doctor's office tomorrow but I'm unsure of the exact route I should take. Is there even anything I can do "bargain-wise" to bring the amount down? Or, at this point, is it too late - legally or time-wise - to have any leverage on my end? Is it pointless to even try to talk to them at this point or should I resign myself to the fact that I now owe them $800?
Thanks for any help in advance. One thing I've learned is to take care of things as they happen as opposed to waiting on one side to do their job before I act.
