all the music you could ever ask for.

Each SONOS box is $350-500 and you can add up to 32 per one controller. Bare minimum, you need one SONOS box plugged into your existing receiver/speaker set-up. iPod touch will cost you $250 and offers a free SONOS app. Minimum set-up will cost you $600 assuming you already have some speakers, a receiver, ,and a wireless internet connection.

Rhapsody account is about $15/month. Additional SONOS boxes can be added to other rooms in your house, allowing for a fully integrated speaker system. SONOS also includes free Pandora, Last.FM, internet radio, and local radio. I can also add my Sirius/XM account.

I must say that this is my favorite toy and it's great for people that like music and also for parties.

Luke, that's another great idea, although limited in its mobility and expandibility.

What I like about SONOS with my iPod touch is that all of those music services are on a handheld device. I can adjust volume, chsnge artists, etc from anywhere in the house or even in the yard.

I just carry around my ipod and I have the world of Rhapsody, Sirius, internet all at my fingertips.

The SONOS GUI on the ipod is also very cool.

That is a nice setup. A lower cost alternative if you have your own music is the iPod Touch plus the AppleTV.

If you already have your songs on your computer or ipod/mp3 player, you can spend about $15 in cables and run it directly through your receiver.

Will the sonos recognize my 39,000 songs in my itunes and the associated playlists?

Also, what is rhapsody, in a nutshell.

Thanks. Very helpful.

My main quesion: Will i be able to use the sonos controller / ipod touch to manipulate the many playlists I have created on my imac (that reference the music stored on the USB HD connected to the imac)?

Aked anoter way: The imac with the music and playlists is upstairs in the office. Will I be able to sit on the couch downstairs, and change the music I hear downstairs from playlist x to playlist y?

tbone,

That I don't know. I am hooked up to a PC so I can't speak to how it might interface to an imac (i don't think this will be a problem given that it already is somewhat integrated to itouch/iphone). There is a category on the SONOS user interface labeled "music library" (both on SONOS controller and itouch). This is supposed to be the location on your home network where you store YOUR music. Under that category label is this (in order):

artist
albums
composers
genres
tracks
imported playlists
search
folders

Assuming that your computer is always on, you should have access to your library from the SONOS unit from anywhere within range of a zoneplayer (white box pictured above). The only thing I'm unsure of is mapping it directly to iTunes. You may have to copy your library of music to an external harddrive and direct (or point) SONOS to that harddrive on your network.

That said, the info you provided in regards to itunes is telling and I would proceed with caution given the rigid walls that apple tends to put in place. At the worst, you could begin to create new playlists or recreate your popular playlists directly on SONOS by use of Rhapsody. I can create and save a playlist of about 400-500 songs in about 10 minutes. Clearly, you are an avid music fan and this functionality would only add to your library.

Funny side note, now that friends/relatives know I can queue up anything at anytime, I've lost control of music in my own house. I've got some younger cousins that come over and my queue is suddenly filled with Britney Spears.

That's a nice setup.

This will do the same thing in a Windows Media Center environment (minus rhapsody of course):
The Link

It will actually run from any browser-enable device with wifi connectivity (PSP, iPhone, Tablet PC, etc).
