do you think TCU is for real?

i think this is the TCU team you guys expected to play last year. they didn't give you guys much, but it looks like we might have a decent team on our hands.... at the very least, a really good defensive team.

i really wonder if TCU would have met the same fate as baylor if they would have joined the big12. somebody has to be the doormat. looks like that my fall to aTm for the next couple of years. who could have imagined that 6 or 7 years ago. that aTm would possibly go winless in the big 12 this year.... of course, not counting the spring game.

The Mountain West is going to be a pretty salty conference this year, with BYU, Utah, and TCU all in the mix. Even UNLV and Air Force aren't bad. It's a travesty that they aren't in the BCS, given what a farce the Big Ten, ACC, and Big East are this year. Even the Pac 10 is underwhelming, outside of USC.

TCU and Baylor will go up and down depending on their coach more so than OU or UT. The small private schools may get some quality players but usually not the roster depth of the larger, well established programs. Patterson is a good coach. They probably won't be able to hang with OU next week.

TCU will be by far the best team OU has seen this year. Texas has not played a tough schedule, but OU started with Chattanooga and Cincinnati. I would be more impressed if they had played Eastern Kentucky Barber College.

TCU has won on their last two trips to Norman, in 1996 and 2005. Of course, OU seems to be stronger this year than they were in '05, and light years ahead of where they were in '96, but I do think it should be a good game this time around regardless of the outcome.

TCU should give OU a good test. Being at home shouldgive the thieves the advantage should things get close.

Our whole early scheduling has worked out for the "pre-Dallas" education of our DB's as good as we could have hoped for this year.

I'm not sure the thieves are as fortunate. Playing "Uncle Ed's Higher Learnin' & Tractor Parts" may not be the experience their D will need Oct. 11. Cinci & Huskies were better, but not much.

I think TCU will be the best team OU has played thus far. That being said, OU just has much more talent. The TCU defense appears to be pretty solid, so I don't think OU will put up 60 like it seems they have done every game so far. However, I think TCU will have some major issues scoring. I haven't paid a ton of attention to TCU this year, but I believe they have been pretty dependent on their running game so far, and the passing game hasn't been that great (someone correct me if I am wrong). With that in mind, my score prediction is:

OU 38
TCU 10

wrong, cinncy is beter then tcu. Their roster was filled with nfl talent. Our coaches where really worries about that game, becuase they where so talented on nthat sid eon the ball.
Before you say"well why is tcu ranked and cinny isnt" thats because the havent been blown out by ou......yet
Cinncy has the best secondary HANDS DOWN that ou will see this year until probably whoever they play in a bowl game. They have a lot more team speed then tcu does. Dont let the name fool you, they are a good team. If their qb had not gotten hurt , they would win the big east, and still might sneak in there.
tcu beat ou the last two times, but both times they had the better team(when they played them.) Ou was a bad team in early part of 05. mark my words ou will hang 50 on tcu.

I'm not sure TCU has the horses this year to take down the land thieves. Although on any given Saturday...

Now BYU vs. OU, that would be a fun game to watch. They might have to borrow the scoreboard from the basketball arena for that one.

washington basicly took byu to overtime in a 28-27 pillow fight, the week before ou played them. Ou could have hung 100 on washington if bradford had played to the end of the game. Somehow Im not seeing the great matchup.

anybody that thinks Cincy is better than TCU hasn't watched both teams.

TCU is number #1 in the country total defense and time of possession right now. They are expanding the offense to actually include passing but so far have 0 passing touchdowns. They average 240 or so rushing and have only allowed one team to get over 200 yards of offense (205). Solid football team.

since your into stats, the BEST offense tcu has faced(out of 4 teams) is ranked 93rd......the rest are worse. Tcu hasnt played an average offense less much less a good one. Tcu cant throw the ball, teams that cant throw the football arent good teams nowdays.
cinny is an overall better football team(with their starting qb)
tcu is a non balanced team who a good defense and a good coach.

My first reaction... ehh.

I watched the TCU v SMU game saturday night from about the 10th row, and I have to say TCU does not have the horses to pull the upset, especially in Norman. They are merely more grist for the mill and will just make OU's record look better.

Against SMU the score looked really bad, but in reality TCU did not play as well as the score reflected. They had several dropped passes, two that I can think of were in the endzone. SMU, had a very inept game yet still got long third down conversions. The other killer for SMU was the flurry of unforced interceptions. Just hit the defenders right in the hands/chest and put them out of it quickly. Over all TCU did not look bad, don't get me wrong, but they were not the mythodical well executing team that it will take to upset OU.

Also this was pretty much a home game for TCU as they had more fans than SMU, so the crowd in Norman will weigh against them as well.

OU 38
TCU 17

everything people are saying about OU/TCU is the EXACT same stuff that was said before the game in '05.

TCU doesn't have to beat the #2 team in the country on the road (for the 3rd time in a row) to be "for real". TCU is a top 15-20 caliber team and has been for the better part of the last 7 or so seasons.

Going 11-1 would be a great season for TCU. They would have already made 2 BCS bowl games if the current rules had been in place as long as the BCS.

I haven't seen them play this year but just looking at them on paper makes me think they are somewhat weaker than Cincinnati.

OU does a good job stopping the run against just about everyone, I don't see TCU as being extra special in this department. I think OU could vulnerable from the air but TCU doesn't seem to pose much threat throwing down the field.

I think Sam Bradford will throw for as many yards as he wants with the only thing stopping him being the end zone.

Of course I was pretty shocked in 2005 as I didn't give TCU a chance then either. But I think for TCU to win it will take OU beating themselves (ie 2005).

If Bob Stoops believes in revenge (says he doesn't) this one could be ugly.

I watched 2 of TCU's games this year. They are definitely a solid football team but nowhere near good enough to compete with OU. Maybe for a half, then the depth shows up.

This is the type of game where TCU could be in it if OU had 4 or 5 TO's. If OU handles the rock and plays an efficient grind it out game, then it is a 2-3 TD win for OU.

Definitely think that TCU is a very good team with a potentially great coach. They will not be beaten mentally by OU as some teams, including us in times past, are.

Ironically I am worried about their Defense vs. OU. I think they will hit Bradford more than he has been hit in all the games they've played this year. I don't want Bradford to be hurt against us. I want to beat them with him at his best.

Not really.

(That's my answer)

I think you'll pull away in the second half. They'll put an early scare in you.

(similar to Cincinnatti game) might be 14-10 TCU at the half. Final 31-17 OU

so you are comparing our 05 team(which was stoops worse) and had like 12 new starters, and was their first game, compared to this year, which may be stoops best team (on paper) and most talented.
I guess that means texas will lose again to arkansas , because they did in 04 at home.
I expect ou and texas to have hige vicotries in both games.

Extra Large,

what info. do you have that NOBDOY else seems to have? Seems to me if there were anything to what you say (there's not), it would have been reported on somewhere.

TCU is a well coached, conditioned and physical team that depends on other teams making mistakes in order to win. Their defense is very fast for a non-BCS team and their priority is to stop the run and for the other team to make turnovers. They will not beat themselves with a lot of mistakes and are a very physical club.

On the other hand, if OU can throw the ball a little bit and Bradford is accurate, they should win by 21 or so. I just think that on the oline and dlines, their really is no comparison between the two teams. TCU's oline is not good and I think that they are so conservative that they will not be able to score enough points to stay close.

Also, TCU has played a very bad Stanford team that had a hard time throwing the ball on a windy day. They mudholed SMU but they are not a good team. They also beat New Mexico, who has a really hard time throwing the ball and that really matches up badly with TCU. TCU has killed New Mexico the past three years and it is just a bad matchup for them as they like to run the ball so much.

Again, you have to throw the ball to beat them because their 4-2-5 is geared to stop the run with the big athletic safeties and solid linebackers. They do have speed but not as much as OU. I predict OU - 38 TCU - 13
