Do you have cell phone insurance?

If so, at what level and for what conditions?

I am trying to determine if the 5 bucks a month to cover everything for full replacement is good or not. I have not ever had it before and have had good luck with my phones. The screen on my G1 got run over and I dealt with it for a few months. That is the only mishap a phone has ever seen with me.

I just got a Samsung Vibrant, a Galaxy S phone, which would be costly to replace. I am thinking that insurance would at least give me peace of mind. Bad idea? Good idea?

I had it while I was in public school. Got one cell phone stolen about a month after I got it, no insurance then. Had to pay full price for a new phone since I had just renewed my contract. Got the insurance after that and kept it for two years when I could renew. Dropped it when I left public school. Like you said - piece of mind. Had my new phone gotten jacked, could have gotten a new one no problem.

Thanks for the response. Had not really thought about theft or forgetting it somewhere. Something else to ponder.

I am just afraid of dropping it or it falling out of my lap on the way out of a buddy's truck and then having it run over like the last one. I don't often drop my phone nor have any gotten scratched. But this phone is more expensive than the others with more gadgets. I think I'm going to spring for it.

Find out what the deductible is for the insurance. Sometimes they are pretty high to where the math may not make sense.

Thanks for that. It was a great question to ask. The "list price" for the phone is something like 500 bucks. To replace since I extended my contract to get the discounted phone would be about 450 bucks. With the 6 dollar insurance cost a full replacement of the phone no matter what happened would be 150. It would take a couple of years of the insurance plus that cost to come close to what the phone may cost at that time.

When the cost of the same phone drops, which they do, and it is no longer worthwhile I will drop the insurance as there is no contract for it. I am glad I knew to ask about the deductible. I am pretty sure they would have mentioned it but you never know.

I now have peace of mind.
