Do we have a point guard coming???

If so I think Balbay's refusal to shoot may delegate him to the bench next year. Thats a shame because I really like the way he pushes the ball.

...jai lucas, might be eligible at mid season or earlier....varez ward will be back, he played at point a little bit...avery bradley might be able to contribute at point

Jai Lucas is sitting out right now after transferring from Florida. Most likely eligible after classes end in December.

He's more of a traditional point. Shot 43 percent BTA at Florida a year ago.

Hard to work in a point in mid season, so not sure Lucas will help that much next season. Ward can at least get into the lane so I think he is better long term. He can also hit free throws.

What I miss most about a real top tier point guard are the laser passes that TJ could get into the post to Thomas and PJ. Dex will get his guy on his hip only to not have the ball thrown to him.

Either way there will be more room to operate next year because we will have more shooters to spread the floor.

Balbay's line last night - 32 minutes with 0 assists and 4 turnovers, while scoring 2 points on 2 shots. He has a lot of potential, but he needs to seriously work on developing at least a mid-range jump shot and learn to play under control.

Balbay obviously needs to continue to work on his shooting and to take an open shot. I lost count of how many open looks he had within 12 feet of the basket and it's like the thought of shooting never crossed his mind. That has to change or he'll be watching from the bench.

I agree with you Warrior, Lucas can flat out run an offense. He has been practicing with the team, and they love him. he will be the difference next year.

lucas is indeed what the horns need. i like balbay's grittiness, but if he can't develop a shot then his minutes should go down. the horns are often offensively challenged, and having only 4 offensive options on the floor just accentuates the problem.

Practicing with the team and playing in games are VERY different. I hope he can acclimate himself to the team very quickly because he will be very much needed. However, I also think that his coming in a little later will cause Bradley and Hamilton to have to step up to the plate a lot earlier - a sort of trial by fire, if you will.

Imagine if you will a starting five for next year.

PG Ward
SG A.Bradley / Mason(doubt RB will do this early )
SF Hamilton
PF James
C Pittman

Ward can handle the point and guard 95% of the guards we run into, quicker guards may give him a problem, but you then go to Dog and Lucas.

Three good to excellent ball handlers, Two excellent 3pt shooters, James also is an option and maybe Ward ??
5 threats to score at anytime.
5 Great defenders
3/4 good passers

PG / Balbay/Lucas
SG /H.Smith / Mason
SF / Williams / Johnson
PF/C / Wang / Chapman/ Hill/ Johnson

RB will have of a wealth of talent to pick and choose. I only hope that he has a stable starting 5 before Big 12 play starts.
I count 14 players ???
How do we work that out? RB has a plan???

Ward is not our PG for the future. He has one good game and you guys act like he's been performing all year and is our star of the future...man O man. Varez needs to stay at the off guard position, he is not the kind of guy who will consistently make plays for others. Unlike Balbay and Mason, though, I love V's shooting prospects for the future. He has a nice looking shot and the confidence that neither of the former two have. I really love how much he stepped up as a true frosh in such a big time situation, but he cannot be the PG for our teams or we are in HUGE trouble.

I'm with you Nordberg...that lineup looks salty to me.

it will be interesting to see how things develop. I think Balbay and Mason know they have to bring something more next year. that said, Dog might fit well on the floor with Bradley/Hamilton/Dex/DJ.

I'm also convinced that Wangmene/Chapman/Hill will improve before next year. I have no legitimate reason for this optimism. just a feeling.

Johnson and Williams fit in here as well.

Ramathorn, my post was deleted and I was directed to the posting guidelines for talking about potential playing time for Mason and Balbay next year. I read the entire thing and there was nothing on there at all pertaining to what I had supposedly "done," but just a warning to be careful with what you post regarding minutes, buddy.

PS: I agree that J's minutes will be substantially down
