iis,

What are you taking about? She has employed more people in Washington than any other person in Congress. Of course, that fact is never reported since the average length of stay on her staff is less than two months during her tenure.

After thinking about this for several minutes, I honestly cannot think of a worse person for the job than SJL. There are illiterate, toothless meth-heads in East Texas who are better qualified for the job than SJL.

I will say this though. The confirmation hearings would be a lot of fun to watch.

Harry Reid would definitely have to use the "nuclear option" to get that nomination through.

In the BiZzArO WoRlD in which we now live, nothing is surprising, even this.

There must be more behind this, there is no way SJL could be considered the best choice among all the members of the CBC

it could be that it was done to get just the reaction it is getting from right leaning blogs and talking heads
How long before the word racist is used?

The number of comments deleted by the Chron staff is pretty large.

but this which didn't get deleted yet
"Chron.com editors are realizing they misreported story. The CBC wasn't nominating SJL for anything at Homeland Security, they were explaining to her how to operate her home security system now that Zimmerman is free."

is the best

Uni!
That is a great quote by Mark Twain . I will enjoy using it . thanks

if I recommended Karl Marx he would have as good a chance as her. Let's nominate the janitor at the Luby's on I 35 for president!

As a democrat and someone who lives in her district, I can easily say that this is a horrible idea. This is really a stupid thread because her nomination and confirmation is impossible.

Her rhetoric is horrible, but she always votes how I would like my representative to vote. Therefore, she gets my vote...despite her downfalls. And, actually, I think she has calmed down a little since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Yes, she votes as a democrat...which is me. I wish she would not ever open her mouth, but I agree with her votes. So, yes, I get my correct representative. Which, I believe, is how our system should work.

Hallmarks of the Democratic Party. They have been taking your vote for granted for ages. They deliver food stamps and aid that sustain you, but nothing to create jobs or safety on Tidwell Road.

It's all part and parcel of creating highly partisan districts. Democrats have their Sheila Jackson Lee's that keep getting re-elected and rural Texas Republicans keep sending embarrassing slow thinkers like Louis Gomert back with nary a strong challenge, unless it's from somebody even more right wing. If you made districts with competeitive races, you'd have situations that call on people to solve real problems and appeal to voters on something besides strict adherence to the party dogma.

ii,

Consider the history of that district:

Created for and elected Barbara Jordan, who, whether you agreed with her or not, became an icon.

Next elected Mickey Leland - enough said. The reaction in the district to his entourage in the crash speaks volumes about the district and the media.

Sheila Jackson Lee - living proof that UVA won't flunk anyone out of school, particularly grad programs.

I have personally met and known all three. One I respect.

I grew up in rural Texas. While many of the representatives were not rocket scientists, they did genuinely represent the interests of their constituents. Farming, timber and oil industries typically supported their campaigns, but they tended to represent the blue collar, Christian beliefs of the area. Those races were typically contested and for most of my life were all largely yellow dog democrats.

Please tell me what SJL truly does to represent the district?
