I have a few GMail accounts, and it's great, but one caveat: my main account is
[email protected], and this has caused two problems:
* Because I have annoyingly common first and last names, I get a lot of spam from companies just guessing that there's probably an email address with those two names. I also forwarded my alumni.utexas.net address to this account, so I get a ton of spam from that, too. The good news is that the GMail spam filter catches almost all of it, so I only get 1 spam in my inbox a week, if that. The only false positives I find in the Junk box are the @Texas newsletter, which I really don't want to read anyway.
* There's at least 5-10 people who think
[email protected] (without the . between the names) is *their* email address, and Gmail forwards email sent to that address to me. I have in just the past few months gotten personal emails, a Dell support chat log, resumes for someone wanting to work at an aquarium in Georgia, entry confirmation for the Little Miss Mississippi pageant, and receipts for some firewall/online backup service in the UK, which I kept canceling, and the guy kept re-paying for, until I changed all the account information to offensive words.
